Hard Crash

I just tried to play the newest Beta through Steam the first time. As it was setting up the galaxy, the game crashed.... It appears to have crashed so hard, it caused both Steam and Chrome to shut down as well! Ouch.

 

What info can I post here to help pinpoint whatever happened? Are there any files or logs that would be of use?

 

My system is Windows 8.1 x64 on an i7 2.4GHz with 8GB RAM. Video card is NVidia GeForce GT 635M
