If i happens without wb loaded, cant be wb. If it happens with wb loaded, I wonder, have you checked settings in wb. Check to be sure you have not chosen a solid color[black] to be used. Under Explorer backgrounds- colors.

In the "Edit Explorer Background Bitmaps"  Active Window = modern\explorer_list_selection.tga and the colors look blue and white

"Inactive Window" = modern\explorer_background.bmp and color is white

??

Also it only does it in WB mode not default windows theme.

I think you have set your explorer background transparency settings in WB oddly.  Go to background, then Explorer backgrounds and click the reset opacity levels button.  Then reapply your skin.

By default transparency is enabled on almost everything.

Will try tonight and update.

are you also getting the server cannot be reached error.it appears decor8 or descapes 8 is causing an issue in windows 8.1.making explorer.exe behave rather strange.

When you change from WB to a different WB. You have to close out and restart the explorer windows for the new one to show.

If you want to make a new active window background. You can use different sizes. To make it simple just make a 1 pixel wide by 3000 pixel high graphic and make it the color you want. In SKS just put in your graphic. You can jut use a 10x10 pixel graphic if you wish.

Remember after you save and apply or change from one WB to another close the explorer window and open again after the WB is applied.

I tried changing the background but it doesn't do anything.  Its some kind of glitch, when you roll over the hard drives or the folder shortcuts, it makes the black disappear and you see thru to all the active windows or desktop below.  I even disabled every transparency on the WB option for explorer and it still does it.  Very strange.  It feels like a bad port for a win 7 application.

Nothing like this happening here on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, using WB 8.09.

I will be more than happy to let someone connect thru teamviewer and test it.

Doesnt anyone else use object dock, windows FX 5 with WB?  Maybe something with those other two programs are causing an issue?

The issue IS your explorer background settings in WB which is why it happens with all skins as those settings are global to all WB skins.

I went into every explorer option and changed everything...nothing fixes it.

Neil I respect you and your knowledge highly. However I have never had a problem with the right side of the explorer window color. In SKS backgrounds what ever color I make the active and inactive images is what I see. As I said most of the time after changing any WB I will have to close out Explorer and open it again for the change of color to take place.

If I'm missing something in what you said please let me know. I think I'm on the same page here. But hell i'm so damn old who knows.

Have you used some Style hack or any other program that may have altered the shell?

I am having the same problem. I have Windows 8.1 Running WB8, Decor8, Window FX and Deskscapes. I ran only WB and explorer worked as expected. I turned on Deskscapes and the problem returned. So it seems that it is Deskscapesd that is causing  the issue.......for me at least. I have started everything except Deskscapes and it explorer displays as it should. Soon as I turn on Deskscapes I get a black background in explorer.
