completely lock a fence down?

I've installed the trial version of Fences on my laptop (Win 7 Home), and before I buy, I want to make sure the program can do one very specific thing, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

I have two icons that I want in the upper left hand corner of my desktop.  I've set up a fence that includes the two icons, that's great.  Now, how do I make it so:

  • The fence can never be moved
  • The icon order can never be changed
  • Unless I unlock it, nothing can be added to the fence under ANY circumstances
I've enabled "Lock Fences," so I think I have the first one set.  It's the other two that I'm having trouble figuring out, and are deal breakers for me.  I'll happily break out the plastic and buy a licensed version if all these things are possible.  Can anyone help?

Thanks for helping out a newb.

For #2 choose the sort option from the Fenec's menu and then click "maintain sorting".

Assuming you have control of your PC, if you don't add a new icon to the Fence then none will be added.  I'm not sure why you want the application to prevent you from doing something you have no intention of doing.

You have the option of automatically sending new desktop icons to a particular fence or select by icon type:  program, documents, etc.. Just make sure you send the icons to a different fence.

You can contact Stardock support and suggest a lockdown option.  It may already be on the list of future enhancements and if not, it wouldn't think it was a difficult option to add.

The purpose of locking Fences is making sure they cannot be moved or adjusted in size.  It will still allow interaction with icons as that is what Fences is designed to do.

Fair point.  However, sloppy click and drag, my wife borrowing my computer for something, etc. all provide for the possibility of icons accidentally being added to a fence despite intentions.

Yeah, basically I'm saying I don't trust myself to not be stupid and inflame my desktop OCD.

Thanks for the info...I'll send a note to suggest for a future release.

Shorten her kitchen-chain.
Problem sorted.

Fences can take a snapshot of the configuration either on demand or on a timed basis.  You should be able to use it to go back to where things were before any changes are accidentally made.
