auto-sort desktop problem

I originally purchased fences years ago.

It had too many problems so uninstalled and waited for new versions to try again.

Sadly, I'm only using it a week and have already had 3 issues to report to the forums.

The latest one is ... I added a new icon to my desktop.  Then I right-clicked the desktop to sort by type.  Then I got a pop-up from fences asking something about maintaining a sort order.  I chose NO.  I then moved the icon to another screen where it is now locked into the upper-left corner.  When I try to move it, it jumps back to the same place.  I have never seen this before.  I don't see a fences option that would cause this.  What is going on?  I can't put the icon where I want it.

It sounds as though Auto Arrange Icons is selected, right click the desktop and if so unselect it.   :sun:

Do not try to use the built in Windows icon handling AND Fences. If you're gonna use Fences, let Fences handle the settings.

Don't do anything on the right click desktop choices.

Philly0381 ... you were right ... thanks ... I've never used that option in my life so I don't know how it got checked.

RedneckDude ... thanks for the advice ... but is there a way to arrange icons on the desktop (that are not in a fence) through fences instead of Windows Icon Handling?

Probably not. I guess I never thought anyone would use fences and still leave some icons on the desktop outside of a fence. Other than maybe the recycle bin, which I leave out and unaffected by quick hide.

ok well then that's another weird thing I am now aware of.

When I quick-hide, all my icons disappear .. even the ones that are not in fences.

That is normal. Any icons you don't want hidden, right click the icon and choose "exclude this icon from Fences' quick hide".
