Use of e-mail address on Stardock, as your ID, to login

A couple of places, I read that it's bad, for security reasons, to use an e-mail address as the login ID.  Why?


I can think of 2 reasons, but I think there are more:

1.) What if you delete that e-mail address due to spam, and you didn't change it here first?  You wouldn't be able to get back in to change it.


2.) Yahoo has a reckless e-mail recycling policy.  See under their Spam button, the option to click "Not my mail"

Paypal uses one's e-mail also.


I see I have an ID for the forum.  Why wouldn't that be used?

If I may address your concerns, valid as they, in your mind, may be.......

#1 I have "lost" two Windows Mail accounts due to changing ISP's. I had no problem regaining access to my Stardock account. They, and you, have ways of proving who you are. ;)

#2 That would be a bad deal, but mainly from a junk/unwanted mail point of  view.( many, many people post their email addy's in the forums, God only knows why)but that blame rests squarely upon Yahoo. That fix is rather simple. If you have such concerns, don't use a Yahoo Mail address. Anywhere, anytime, for anything. Period.

 Note that PayPal is one of the most trusted sites on the planet and SD 'uses the same format, and in my mind is just as secure.

The UserID [eg mine 'Jafo'] needs to be linked/verified to an actual User via email address to link with your Stardock Customer Account.

In the same way Paypal uses your rmail address to verify you are linked to that Credit Card used in purchases.

BOTH Companies' logins can have the same issue with deleted email accounts - requiring you to correct the login with the new replacement email address.

This also is the case with Amazon and countless other sites where there's the facility to purchase.

Once your 'ID' Avatar is linked to your email you can login eg via [as I do] Login = Jafo  Pass = *****

The email won't be needed [to log you in again]...;)
