Can humans reproduce with Altarians?

this forum sparked the question.

https://forums.galciv3.com/456357/page/1/#3483075

Well the title says it all, I can't think of any two species that look alike that can't mate. And if you look alike most of you genes are too so the odds if not being compatible are slim...even with blue skin. :)

Really this is a serious post.

Darca, I am certain I read that they cannot mate and produce offspring.

It really depends if we are going off of astrophysics or scify. In scify the answer is yes. In astrophysics they may not even be using water for blood or using DNA or a variance in several ways for inheritance. They may not even be carbon. In the game I think they can.

Ok admiral using logic I've determined they are all the above. Lol

and Larsenex please call me DARCA ;) (stroke my ego)

It would be cool if they couldn't get pregnant, but it would also be cool to know they could. :digichet: :andrew: B) O:)

To quote the tech "A History of Benevolence" from the Altarian tech tree in TotA:

"Physically, Altarians look identical to humans. They are not, however, humans. They are not genetically compatible and do not share the same DNA. But they are similar enough in DNA to ensure that there is some unknown connection between the two."

Edit: Or, if you don't want to start up the game to read it, you can find the tech description here too.

I heard Akari has a thing for Lord Kona...you know how it is, 'once you go Drengin, you don't go back'.

Actually, it's the other way around, from what I heard: Lord Kona would like Akari for dinner.

If you're asking this question then why not ask, are the common house cats able to reproduce with an African tiger?  They look similar wouldn't it be cool.

Why is this even a question?  Sometimes I wonder about you DARCA.  Do you have a thing for Akari?  Either way the short answer is NO!!!

It might be possible for one to do this. A house cat can interbreed with a leopard and a leopard can interbreed with a tiger. But whether the offspring will be non-sterile is a different story. So a house cat may be able to interbreed with a tiger. Lions and Tigers can interbreed and you get Ligers and Tigons.

It doesn't really matter if they can interbreed. If they can, it would make an interesting expansion pack as this half-breed is the one who stops the Terrans from Destroying the universe as the Thalans say is going to happen...

I left a link up top if you saw it, that's were the question sparked from. and I'm being serious.

Anywho, in the 23# century it would be childs play to get it to happen. It would be cool to see a half and half race or maybe a I'll make a custom race and call them the hutarians or almans. :)

But its likely a easy problem to fix given its likely one or so genes that is blocking the birth. We have had dudes get pregnant, lesbian couples, people that were sterile, and sex changes that are happening 200+ years before galcivs timeline so I know if a scientist puts his mind to it we can make a little more than hyperdrive... ;)

I'll put seven minutes into writing this. EDIT Well I went over :)

It was that time in every young things life to have the "talk" with their parents*. One altarian male and human female sat before him in a white room, looking nervous and making him even more so.

In perfect unity they said. "Do you know why you here?"

"Yes, you're going to tell me were babies come from, right?"

Looking absolutely disgusted at his words they both said. "Noo! We are hear to tell you were you came from."

"Oh, is this about my green slimy skin, five eyes, six fingers, and three feet?"

"The short answer is yes. As may know you are VERY different, so different you're existence has been a secret to everyone that doesn't have top secret clearance unto this bunker."

Confusion spread across the thinks face making his next ignorant words difficult to say. "So...are...you two...my par...ents???"

After several hours of laughter they said together once more. "Hell no, our children are beautiful and healthy, your the first test tube kid we made. Your version one. Since your birth we have gotten better making good kids and we have kept you around to do chores.

Anger filled his little brian as he began to realize just how he had been living. "You said there were others like me and I was the best, that I was good enough to see the lights in the sky!"

This time the Altarian male spoke alone. "We were going to show you to the Republics leader to show our initial progress but...shes somewhere in evil lord konas belly now. So with our program coming to a end because we've succeeded in our lucrative goal we are now left with determining your fate."

Apprehensively the thing replied. "What's that's,your going to shoot me?"

"No, no, no. We aren't that sick." they said in there ironically  sickening unity once again. We were going to let you go but realized that we haven't taught you anything and you would just be lost in the world. So we are going to evaporate you!" The amount of enthusiasm they said it with was totally sadistic.

Just then Akari mil-something walked in and said in her charismatic voice. "No such thing will happen to...thing, for I the benevolent leader of the Altarian peoples have come to bring the thing to the surface world. There his fate will be his own"

Joy flowed though thing so fast that it was impossible to say thank you."Ttsank ouyo"

After months of rehabilitation thing was fit for society-or at least in his have- and off to finds career. To his luck the only job that would have him was the movie business. There he made millions and became a star in movies like "The half breed" and "What if?" and his best film "We are all the same". In things movie career he brought the altarian people closer together in the face of invasion and strife. (+10 morale)

As for his care "parents" they were sentenced to death but pleas from thing got them sentenced as has make up and wardrobe people.

Its a happy ending apart from the Drengin blockade... :)

(don't sue me please. ;) )

Well Star Wars and Star Trek have there ways around it. In Star Wars there are many near-human races that are directly related to humans, and can inter-breed. I forget how it was in Star Trek, but I want to say it was something along those lines, but, in an evolutionary point of view ( with me being a Christian creationist), there would be a chance of two races that would be able to breed together. But like Gaunathor said, Altarians and Humans can not inter-breed.

Allright, I'll take the bait.  You're certainly not a young Earth creationist right?

What about my crappy story! And hello its the 23# century and we just met life in the universe that also looks like us! Your saying steps would not have been made for this to become possible!?!? That's all we would be trying to do because humans are like that.

Again, 23# century, its insane when you really think about it that we or the altarians would not tamper with this.

If by "young Earth" you mean I believe that Earth's on 6,000-6,500 years old, then yes. But lets no make that a argument on evolution vs. creation or young Earth vs. old Earth. I'm just tryin' to say that, by how most people believe, it would be possible.

I will say that the Bible says everything was made with age, but like I said, lets not debate about this. The GalCivIII forum isn't the place for it.
