Why does the Charms Bar live on?

How can I keep the Charms Bar disabled?

With Start8 operational, I STILL have the Charms Bar appear any time my finger gets near the right edge of my track pad.

I HATE WINDOWS EIGHT!  I don't want to have it pop-up like that.  As soon as it does, my app loses focus, and I have to click on the app for it to re-gain focus.  This is a waste.

Please save my sanity!  Is there a preference I've forgotten to check, or one you've forgotten to avail?

Thank you!

What you're describing here is an annoying touchpad feature called "Edge Swipes", which is enabled by default for Synaptics touchpads (and some other brands too).

Here's a link that will show you how to disable the Edge Swipes feature:

I'm pretty sure this will solve your problem.

In addition, make sure you check the Start8 configuration under Desktop.  There are options there to disable hotspots and the charms.

My desktop is again Charms-free!

Thanks for the tip!

I assume it was the Edge Swipes thing?

Yes; exactly.  Easy fix, but for my trackpad (known on my Samsung as a "smart pad", I had to go to:

control panel--> mouse --> touchpad --> options

Not really obvious, but easy to poke around for once I had an objective.

Thanks!
