Probable Farewell to ODNT: Moved to Redhat 8

My subscription is almost ready to be renewed, but since early October, I've been using Redhat Linux 8.0, and to my amazement, I haven't looked back. I still check the WinCustomize site to see what's going on. You can bet, if I *do* move back to Windows, I'll be renewing my subscription. Otherwise, FWIW, I thought I'd post a link to a screenshot of my current desktop. I'm running KDE 3.0.5-1 with Mosfet's Liquid theme, an "aqua" Window decoration, and the "Liquid Fusion" icon set. I'll be popping in from time to time. I hope everyone's well, and wish you all, and the Stardock staff a Happy Thanksgiving.

Honestly, I probably put in 16 hour days in front of this thing for the first 3 weeks or so. But, I got things accomplished I never thought I'd be able to do. Procmail w/SpamAssassin, an XFT build of Moz running w/TT anti-aliased fonts, Samba and my WIN98SE box running together well, etc. It was worth the effort, and although a lot of work, very rewarding.

I use Mandrake, got it with a magazine on a CD, alongwith Windows on a partitioned disk. I agree with gb2000: it is very rewarding.

bah, You can come here with mozilla as easily as you can come here with IE. You can also customize Linux. You still have plenty in common, no reason you can't hang out and commiserate from time to time.

Heck, it wouldn't do a lot of harm for the comuunity to spread in the Linux direction a bit; more and more of us are making the leap.

Dont' be a stranger

I've run just about every OS that is 'native' to a PC, but I still come back to Wind Blows...[XP, with LiteSTEP, of course]...

I certainly don't expect to reach total "stranger" status. There's just too much good stuff and good company here. Plus, I keep grabbing and setting files aside, so when I visit the Windows drive, I'll have plenty to keep me busy. First on my list of things to look at is the Object Dock I saw posted.
I guess the idea of Linux and *WIN*customize would seem to be at odds a bit, but it really would be nice if some of the great talent here, and the site itself would expand into the area of Linux themes, window decorations, etc. Perhaps some have, and I just don't know it.
Jafo - yes, until this latest experience with RH 8, I always did the same thing. I'd spend time here and there with various linux distros, but I'd always return to (and preferred) XP. This time though, it "clicked". I think discovering that it really is possible to everything in Linux that I'd do in Windows make it feel like a good time to move on over. Open Office is a fantastic office suite (IMO, much better than the previous version of Sun Office), and I even got my ATI card's TV tuner working. I think new major release of linux distributions will make it easier for Windows folks to make the move.
