There is no graphics for Sovereigns, main map and units

I have downloaded and installed the game from Steam. The game version is 1.6 and I am running it on Win7 32 bit.

Once in the game (started as Administrator) after clicking on New Game there is no graphics for any of the Sovereigns. Instead I can see only black background, at where the figures should be presented.

Once the game starts - the main map is a grey square with nothing at all on it. Nothing appears if I click on it. Also the portraits of the units, i.e. militia are missing, but the portrait (small icon, on the bottom of the UI) for the sovereign is present.

When clicking on UI elements, i.e. tax menu or mana menu, appropriate dialogs come up and the graphics seem to be ok (although might miss some elements, but since I have just bought the game I wouldn't know how complete it is).

No Mods are installed or enabled.

I have updated the drivers. It didn't help. That's fine though since as you said my system is below the minimum requirements. I just wanted to confirm that my issue is not related to the issues some of the other users had with the graphics (and for them it was different as some of them had the right system setup).

Also, after these manipulations with the video drivers the game started crashing again at the point when starting the new game. I managed to go through that step before by disabling DEP, but now it came back. This is just a side observation though, since the graphics are not visible anyway.

Oh, well. Will install it on the different system then. Thanks for your reply.
