Extremely slow perfomance on Windows 8.1u1 and WB 8.04

Hello there,

I just migrated from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 update 1 Pro x64 (fresh install) and installed windowsblind 8.04. After restarting the PC it was extremely slow.

A comparison with windowsblind disabled and enabled (Process: time WB disabled -> time WB enabled)

  • Boot time (from windows load animation to desktop) : 15 sec -> 2min
  • Startup programs starts (after entering the desktop to it is usable, with all programs loaded): 15sec -> 1.5min
  • Firefox: 1sec -> 55sec (every time is opened)
  • VMWare Player: 3sec -> 1min 13sec (every time is opened)
  • IE11: 1sec -> 48sec (every time is opened)
  • Foobar2000: 3sec -> 1min 

The startup programs are:

  • MSI Afterburner + RTSS
  • SpeedFan
  • HWInfo
  • Copy
  • OneDrive
  • SoundSwitch
  • Steam
  • ųTorrent

The Users directory was moved from "C:\Users" to "D:\Users" during system install

The system specs are

  • CPU: Intel i5-2500k @ 4.6GHz
  • VGA: HD6950+HD6970, driver version 13.251-131206a-166151E-ATI, crossfire enabled
  • SSD Neutron GTX

I can load and unload windowsblind many times during one session, getting the same results.

It works fine on Windows 7.

Did you install anything on a non local drive?

It sounds like access to files is painfully slow for some reason as those times are not normal.  Like files on a network drive which is inaccessible.

Have you tried other skins?

No, everything is in the local machine. also, windowsblind is on the SSD.

And yes, I've tried other skins (the ones that come with the program and some from wincustomize).

And seems that it was it, i moved back the folder to C:\Users, reinstalled and worked, then moved it to D:\Users again and kept working, so i assume something moved or installed wrong the first time.
