Desktop slides to another Desktop

How do I restore?

I have Windows 8.1. sometimes when moving icons one I am trying to move gets close to the sides and all of a sudden I now have blank screen except for that Icon.  I can't get back to the desktop I had before, unless I reboot.  What is this?  is it a fences attribute??

To prevent this, right click on a fence> go to view> on the drop down you will see 'lock fences'> tick that and it should resolve your issue.

Not exactly starkers; sounds like he is invoking Desktop pages.  bat2, turn this off and that should cease:
