Problem on STEAM

Can't play any of the Sins of a Solar Empire games

Hi everyone, i'm new in the forums but i've been playing Sins since it became available in impulse a few years ago, but since it came out on steam i also purchased it there.

Well my problem is that since i tried to play Rebellion this week i wasn't able to even enter the game, after i click the play button it sends me to a black screen and immediately kick me out with a message saying that there was an error with the game and that a report was sent to the developer :( then i try to play trinity and the same happens.

My first thought was that maybe it was steam but the rest of my games work without a problem, i updated my gpu drivers, unninstalled steam along the games, made a registry swept and install everything again with the same result.

Does anyone else have the same issue? i already sent an email to the support but if anybody knows a way to fix this i'll be really thankful.

Thanks in advance

When you uninstalled Sins, did you also go and delete all your settings and stuff in My Games and/or AppData?

Yes, but after backing them up in an usb just in case it wasn't my save files, any other clue of what might be happening with the game?

BTW in a differete matter why i can't change my avatar and username in the forum? when i put the new username and type my password it doesn't accept it, all that i get is that my current password is invalid...wtf?

Did something update on your computer, such as a graphics card, right before the issue?  Did you recently install a game that changed the C++ redistributables or DirectX?  Have you recently installed any new programs?

I updated my gpu driver after the issues with the game thinking than that might be the problem, the only game that i recently installed was Age of Empires 2 HD also in steam, and that's all, 3 weeks ago was the last time that i had time to play sins until this week so nothing else has changed in my pc, actually i barely turn it on until the start of my vacations this last sunday.

I was gonna say that phtoshop was updated this week but the last time i updated was like 2 months ago and 'til this day keeps poping up the update alert so that can't be.

Well, you could always try a clean install of the graphics driver, I know NVidia offers this option (don't know about AMD)...do you recall AoE2 causing a change to DirectX when it was installed?  Like, the first time you ran it, did a little steam screen come up telling you had to take care of some things before you could play?

To tell you the truth usually when i'm installing a game on steam i alwyas press the button next without reading   i only read them when i'm installing a game directly on windows or any other kind of program but on steam i get a little lazy and don't pay too much attention, but i guess there's a chance that it needed a different directx, let me give a try and unninstall age of empires.

Try going into the Rebellion install directory and run "Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion Dev.exe". I can't tell you how many times a simple settings error has caused people's game to crash on startup.

Ok, finally i made it to work, i tried first with the .exe file like GoaFan77 told me but had the result than before, then unninstalled Age of empires and and tried it again but that didn't work either so i finally unninstalled the gpu drivers and updated them again and that made the trick, i don't know why it didn't work the first time or if it was  the combination of the gpu drivers plus Age of empires.

It a shame that this things happen, no i don't have the confidence to install again Age of Empires II without Sins starting to fail.

Thanks Seleuceia and GoaFan77 for your help.

Hi, I have a similar issue to this, I don't get a black screen just the error message. I ran the dev.exe and got this:- Assert @ D:\projects\SINS\SinsRebellion\main\CodeSource\Engine/File/FileSystem.cpp(408)

D: is my cd drive but i installed the game via steam so why does it look for something on D?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

End of Tolkenmoon's quote

It doesn't; that's a source code reference and doesn't have any relation to anything on your machine.

If you email support@stardock.com they should be able to help with the problem.
