Limitations of Galciv 2

As stated in the title of this post, how will you overcome the limitations of galciv 2. I am referring to the memory leak issue that was never resolved, making games unplayable in the late game. I understand that you are moving to a 64bit only platform, which I applaud, but as there was a glaring issue with part 2 of the series that the devs never thought to actually "FIX". What assures me or any of us as consumers of your product that issues such as the one I listed previously will not persist in this build? Your track record precedes you in this manner. Please, do not misunderstand, I thought and still think that galciv 2 was a fantastic game. I just want to be able to play it past turn 200 without waiting 30 minutes for the game to update my moves.

It's going to be a completely new game with new problems. In case you run into a problem be sure to check out the support information they will provide when alpha/beta starts.

Much of the data in GalCiv 2 had a lot of stuff hard coded. That meant that the devs couldn't easily change variables, or allow us to mod the same stuff. The Starport is one of those things. There is no ability that allows a planet improvement to unlock ship building. The game quite literally searches for a planet improvement whose internal name (the name you see and the name the game uses to track stuff can be different) is called "BasicStarport" and if the planet doesn't have one then ship building isn't unlocked. That means you can't mod an "Improved Starport" planet improvement as the game has no mechanisms to make it work.

One of the perks of a new game engine is this problem isn't passed on from the old game engine to the new game engine (unless someone screws up). So don't expect problems old problems to exist anymore. In the off-chance that old problems show up again, that would be a coincidence.

For me the GalCiv2 limitation was no mulitiplayer PBEM - easy to play and have time to plan. Nowadays the power of game is a real community to play together or develop the game together with mods. No multiplayer no strong community.

Even though I agree it was a weakness, this is not a deal breaker or limitation.  There was a way to force it to hot-seat multiplayer, if wanted the problem is with even two players you need the time for each player to go.  Multiplayer is obviously being addressed in Galactic Civilizations III so it's a mute point.  The main focus of Galactic Civilizations II was making it a great single player game with no multiplayer so stating that it was a limitation is like saying that the Sims is a limited game because you can't play your sims in a city, the games were never designed that way so it is an intentional design.

You don't need multiplayer to have strong community, you just need a strong fan base, multiplayer does not make a game great, a good game that keeps the user entertained and into the game.  Which I believe is the true nature of a game.  Now as far as the other posts about the memory leak, well, I do notice that using a faster computer does limit this down some but does not eliminate, it's just too bad that this game reached "end of life" prior to somethings being dealt with.  Ether way it's a great game and I look forward to the next version soon :)

I am not a big fan of any multilayer games online, i don't see the point of watching 'hotshots' kick my ass all day, its pointless. Let the hotshots duke it out amongst themselves while we all enjoy 'not' being involved.

However multilayer at home is a different story, .. i have kids and a wife who likes gaming, how will i sit and play a non multilayer game?
