Is modernmix necessary with 8.1?

I purchased and installed modernmix back in April, and at that time it was obviously a necessity. Since installing 8.1 this Fall, I've tried a few times to find articles about the new features of 8.1 supposedly inspired by the user frustration that led us to look for help from things like modernmix. However, I haven't found yet any information that simply lists the problem and the 8.1 solution. I would rather not uninstall modernmix (and classic shell - which I used to restore the start button) to find out what is solved or still lacking in Windows since the 8.1 update. I don't see anyone running basic 8.1 writing that they are frustrated by the lack of windowed apps. Is that one of the things they solved in the update?

In a nutshell, what does modernmix do that 8.1 does not cover? Thanks for your help.

ModernMix gives you the ability to run Modern (Metro) apps on the desktop.  Windows 8.1 does not include this functionality.
