Numerous desktop freeses on Windows 8.1

Since upgrading to Windows 8.1 and Start8 v1.30 I have numerous freezes of my desktop.

In those cases I cannot click a desktop item. When pressing alt-tab to switch to the desktop, after some seconds explorer restarts and I can access the desktop again. This
 happens multiple times a day.

Anybody else is having this issue?

Is there any reason why you would think Start8 might be the cause of the issues?

Do you have Stardock DeskScapes, or Stardock Fences installed, or any other applications which might interact with the desktop?

I only use Start8 that worked fine for more than a year on Windows 8. Problems started directly after upgrading to Win 8.1 & Start8 v1.30.

To be sure I uninstalled Start8, but also then I get the same problem: "The program Explorer.EXE version 6.3.9600.16408 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed.".

So it's not related to Start8.

Thanks for letting me know that it is happening without Start8.

If you didn't do a clean install of Windows 8.1 you may have to consider it as I have seen a few reports of odd Windows 8.1 issues that may be linked to an upgrade install not going quite right.  The best one has to be games with NVidia graphics cards rendering in 3D coloured glasses mode.
