App vanishes after going to desktop

Just installed modernmix in Windows 8.1

When I start the dutch app nu.nl and then choose to display it in a window on the desktop it is showing up in the desktop but then it crashes. On the left side the app is still visible but when I choose it there the same thing happens. The app is displaying a message that the articles cannot be retrieved.

When I'm quick I can click on the full screen option before it crashes. Then the app is going back to the metro interface. There it's working ok.

Which version of ModernMix are you using?

Same issue. I'm running ModernMix 1.12 and most Modern UI apps either just stall fullscreen or just crash. The one exception is the Skydrive app; it seems to work properly.

One other thing in case it matters is that I'm also running Start8 most current version as of this date.

Which apps in particular are you having issues with as this is not normal.

ModernMix was tested on Windows 8.1 and as far as I am aware no problems of that nature were found but it could be you are using other applications that differ from the ones we used.

Haven't tried them all but of the ones I've tried I can report the following results.

Crash at start: Mail, People, Calendar, Weather, News, Finance

Open but hang at startup screen: Twitter, Music

Seem to Work properly: SkyDrive, Photos, Health and Fitness, Food and Drink

I am going to temporarily uninstall your products as a troubleshooting step.

I am still having the same issues after unistalling Start8 and ModernMix. So it appears to be a Windows install problem not a Stardock problem.

While that's bad news for you I have to confess to being somewhat relieved!  Assuming you rebooted after uninstall.

I would recommend making another user account and seeing if you continue to have the same issues with that as it could be Windows has corrupted your user profile in some way.

In my case at least the issue seems to be registration/authentication of the Windows store and the apps. I am resolving the issue. First I had to re-establish the ability to run the Windows store app, which I was able to do after I found a shell command to re-register it (see http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_store/windows-store-apps-wont-open-and-the-store-app/114980d8-b835-41f6-bffd-debe7ad1b3ea?rtAction=1382289852066). Once I got the Windows store app working, it seems that uninstalling and re-installing any app that won't run is doing the trick.

In my case the app is working normally in metro-mode (full screen). But as soon I send it to a desktop window via the modernmix button it opens but crashes.

Uninstalling and installing the app nu.nl again doesn't solve the problem, unfortunately
