Tabbed dock will not promptly autohide itself after mouse rolls over activation area.

This problem of the tabbed dock remaining is open is frustrating because every time I mistakenly roll my mouse over the tabbed dock activation area, it pops out and remains out. This then requires an extra mouse click (in an empty space of the desktop) to return to the peace of a clean screen. Arrgh! I have tried many different settings' many times' but was unsuccessful at getting it to close itself like the other shelf-like 'Quicklaunch' (Mac OS like) doc at the bottom. That one pops out when I'm near it and then hides itself completely when I roll away from it. That is the desired outcome also for the tabbed dock and I need help figuring out how to do that.
