Should not install Stardock IconPackager

It's not a technical support request!

Hello,

As a programmer and a client from Stardock, i have found a critical error in Stardock IconPackager that damages the system in two steps for all Windows system.

 * When you install it and apply a new skin, the suspend Windows option doesn't work and you have to reinstall Windows.

* When you uninstall it, IconPackaged damages this option:

- Windows restore.

- Windows icons (can't be full restored by IconPackaged software and it's too difficult to solve)

-The restore options from Windows 8 doesn't works.

Why happens this issue?

In spite of it's fully compatible (Requires: Windows 8 / 7 / Vista / XP), when you install and apply a new skin and/or you uninstall this software, the Windows Integrity and some Windows icon files become damaged. For example, some icons turns white, in spite of, this software allow to recover the default icons. But the real problem happens when you uninstall it because it drags other Windows files. In the last case, after uninstall it, you can see that the Windows restore option doesn't work and the system become inestable.

For example, after you install this software you could see in CMD console after you introduce the command "sfc/scannow" that Windows has to repair some files damaged by IconPackaged and should not damage the Windows files. Also after that, you can't use the Windows restore option.

Thank you to Stardock Support, but, in this case, i don't need help because, regrettably, i know this software damages the Windows integrity.

There are so many cases reported with this software in Microsoft support forum but it's the only one. The other Stardock programs work very well and do not present any risk.

Note: I have tried all Stardock software and only i found an error with this software. All the other Stardock softwares works fine and should not damage your system.

What version of IP? WIndows?

I've been using IconPackager for close to 10 years. all versions, and have NEVER had the issue you claim happened to you occur on any PC I used it on.

Did you contact support? The people here in the forums and in support are some of the MOST helpful people you can find ANY WHERE!

blackstone_fede ... when you believe you have an issue with software it is imperative that you provide as much spec detail as possible to enable it to be replicated/resolved.

It's entirely possible otherwise to imagine it is being applied to an unsupported OS, or similar....;)

If you would contact support@stardock.com and start a trouble ticket, they will be happy to work with you to resolve your issues with iconPackager.

Hope you get it sorted out.I have used it for years and never had a problem like that.

You should do as Hankers said Stardock is really good at resolving issues you may have with one of thier products.Good luck.

Definitely sounds strange.  Like the others I have used IconPackager on XP, Vista and Windows 7 without any problems.  Support should be able to sort it out for you.

Are you running any other software that changes Icons in any way?

I use  iconPackager on both windows 8 and now on windows 8.1 RTM and I have not encountered any of the issues you have.

Iconpackager is the best there is when it comes to changing icons. Like everyone else I ran IP on XP, Vista and 7 and never once had a problem, not one!. There's something else on your system not playing nice.

THE 'support' forum

I'd recommend filing a ticket with support@stardock.com as this seems like an unusual issue.

Hello,

Thanks for all your answers!.

I have updated my post.

IconPackager should not be altering or replacing any OS files during install or uninstall.

We have had no other reports of similar, but I will ask QA to double check.

This is pretty much the exact issue I had with IP several years ago if I'm understanding it right.

The problems don't arise until you UNINSTALL the software. If it's installed, it works fine.

Since you are not requesting support this thread is closed.

Both statements are false/baseless.
