Win 8.1 RTM Compatibility Bug

Several Issues

Using x64 8.1 RTM build with MM 1.1

Im wondering if anyone else is having these issues or can suggest how to debug

1) Closing metro apps (by dragging from top to bottom) has issues

     a) Most of the time the window stops responding and I get an error indicating MM has stopped responding (Always occurs with Lync client)

     b) Other times it wont attempt to close, the window just moves down to bottom

     c) When metro window apps do close, for unknown reasons, the Windows Store App suddenly appears full screen when I never even opened it.

Is MM 1.1 compat with 8.1 or is a future update reqd?

Are you sure you are using ModernMix 1.1?

In our testing with earlier builds of 8.1 it was happy, but obviously 8.1 RTM is not public so it is possible some further small tweaks will be required.

Yes. it 1.1 I check about tab.

Its disappointing vendors didn't get a chance to validate compatibility before GA.

I will make sure someone is allocated to it next week to see if we can reproduce the issues and fix them.

I am afraid one of the dangers of using something before release is you get to run into issues like this, but on the plus side now that we know we can fix it before GA.

It looks like we are going to need more information, as ModernMix seems to be behaving here.

When you say you drag the window to the bottom to close it, do you mean when it is fullscreen or in a window?

Also are you aware that the drag to bottom to close feature in Windows 8.1 has changed.  Dragging to the bottom quickly simply hides the app and it continues to run in the background, but dragging it down, holding it until the window preview flips round to show the app icon will force close it.

The RTM is actually released for Windows 8.1  (x86/x64) as well ass Windows Server 2012 R2. You can obtain it from the MSDN (Microsoft Developers Network) Website.

Microsoft changed their minds in order that developers could be able to tweak their software prior to the October 18 Full Public Release.

Yes they have which is useful for us.

I imagine there will be small updates for a few bits once we have run a full QA cycle on them.

I'm having similar trouble with MM and Win 8.1 RTM. I noticed the Store app kept popping up on its own. Also, for whatever reason, Store and Photos apps have the Google Chrome icon in MM and the Taskbar, but not in the Start8 menu.

I was running MM 1.05 and so I upgraded to 1.10. Now MM isn't working at all. :(

Edit: Uninstalled 1.10, rebooted, reinstalled 1.10 and now it is working again, although still with the same quirks -- Store popping up on its own and the Chrome icons appearing on Store and Photos.

What settings do you have set in ModernMix as the store should not be showing up with 1.1.

Also exactly what were you doing prior to the store showing up and is it showing up fullscreen or windowed?

Regarding the icons, if you open C:\ProgramData\Stardock\PY do you see the correct icons named FileManager and winstore (both with lots of extra bits of text)?

I think the problem with the Store popping up has gone away. It may have been related to rapid boot, as it went away after doing a shift+shutdown this morning and I haven't seen it happen again since. To answer your question though, it was appearing seemingly at random -- while running metro apps or just browsing the web.

Also, the issue with the icons has changed. Today the Store icon appears correctly, but the Photos icon still shows the Chrome icon. In the C:\ProgramData\Stardock\PY folder, I find the correct icons on the named .ico files. I also find 4 Chrome icons named ".ico", "_2.ico", "DefaultBrowser_NOPUBLISHERID!Chrome.ico" and "DefaultBrowser_NOPUBLISHERID!Chrome_2.ico".

Is it safe to delete any of them? I suspect the first two are a problem, while the last two seem to fit the pattern of the rest.

You can delete them yes, they should be recreated.

I suspect whats happening is MM 1.05 was using bad icons and the OS has helpfully cached them.

I just had Modern Outlook spontaneously launch windowed on the Desktop shortly after login while browsing the Decor8 control panel (nothing touched in Decor8, just browsing). Presumably it was background syncing and got picked up by ModernMix by accident?

I am not aware of there being a modern outlook client available.  Did you mean the standard OS modern mail client, or could it have actually been the normal desktop outlook in which case that will be nothing to do with ModernMix at all.
