Customizing the Start Menu

Creating cascading folders

My main interest in getting start8 of course is that I hate windows 8 UI. But what I'd really like to do is restore the system I had where I created cascading folders in the start menu with sub-categories of the related programs, like Graphic Editors, Web Dev, Security etc etc. At the very least in Windows 7 I had separate folders for shortcuts in my start menu, even though I couldn't get them to cascade like windows XP, but cascade would sure be faster and handier.  Will Start8 allow this possibility?

thanks

Sorry for the delayed response.

Like previous versions of Windows, to manage directories you need to navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu or C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu to change the structure in the  start menu.

It is an interesting feature enhancement to allow for folder creation from the start menu and I will pass it along to the dev team.

Never got an answer from anyone from any of the Start Menu programs except Classic Shell / Classic Start Menu.  When you add folders and drop links to programs in the folder, it auto creates an expandable menu in the start menu.  Just what I wanted.  So are you saying it would do the same in your program or you dont' know?

Thanks

Tim

We don't support cascading folders ala the old style Windows start menus.

If you create sub-directories in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" or "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" Start8 will display those as expandable directories that you can drag and drop shortcuts into.
