flanking bonus?

Just curious if there is a flanking bonus in the game, i.e. bonus to damage and/or accuracy or smtng when you attack enemies from the side or from behind. If yes, I have missed it completely and would be very glad if someone could explain how it works. If no, wouldn't that be a really cool addition? Most of the time tactical combat feels a bit too static imo, just running up to the enemy and hacking away and rarely any incentive to move your troops.

Sort of. There's a bonus to attacking a unit that is adjacent to other units of yours, but not for the direction your attack comes from. I believe it's something like +1 attack and +5 accuracy per friendly unit adjacent to the target unit.

...and it's called "swarm". Lupines and canines get this bonus doubled, as you can see in their skill window.

Yes I know about the swarm bonus. Flanking would reward having high movement, high initiative units though, while swarm just rewards... well.. swarming.

True that. It would be nice if there were some more tactical maneuvers to make.

If there was a flanking bonus, I doubt it would be facing-related, because there's no easy way to change your facing.  It would probably be like D&D (4e, specifically, is what I'm thinking of), where it's assumed that a combatant can easily turn to face any one enemy, but get enemies on opposite sides or corners and you get the bonus.

Usually, when I am swarming an opponent, I try to maneuver my units as far to the opposite as possible anyway, so I can swarm with the most units. Meanwhile I also have to take care so as not to expose my more fragile units, putting the tanks in the middle of the fight. I do not see how a flanking bonus would add anything new to this.

Oh, and I forgot to mention all the units with multi-attacks I have to position correctly...
