Bug: 1.01 Beta - Campaign

Bug: 1.01 Beta - Campaign

Had this happen to me during the first campaign scenario:

Playing as Relis, I sent a army to the west to deal with the Yithril invasion. I took out the city and occupied it and then sent Relis alone against the army that was guarding the ship. I lost the battle and the ship was moved along with Relis to the city. I couldn't access the ship the rest of the scenario.

Im unable to reproduce this (for me relias goes back to the city alone, the ship isnt spawned unless you wint he battle).  Is anyone else seing this?

I remember that I used a few spells in order to try to survive the battle. I know I did haste, I also used a Fireball scroll and used one other scroll that I found, but I don't remember which one - but it was another damage scroll (Wither?). When he died, I didn't immediately notice that the ship was beside him in the city. I had auto saves at 3 and when I realized it was there it was too late to go back and retry the battle.

I did kill off most of the guards, but I don't think it was one of those we killed each other off at the same time situations. All the guards were damaged and I think only one unit remained at the end. I died at the upper left corner of the map.

It happened to me as well during Beta. (and I forgot to post about it... stupid me !)

One easy way to reproduce this is:

* Launch the quest with champion A and lose the fight.

* The goodie hut is now gone, replaced by the remains of the yithril army.

* Attack this stack with another army (in my case, I didn't wait for Champion A to fully recover. I think I had Champion B leading that stack, but honestly I don't remember.)

* Win the second fight.

* Quest is now complete, but Champion A is awarded XP AND the reward and, well, since the city he is recovering in has no access to beach...

* ... You now have a beautiful boat stored in your capital ! :)

i think this is due to the fact that, for some quests, generally when you fail a first encounter and complete it with a second army/champ, it is the champion that started the quest that get the xp/loot/reward.

It's rare and quite hard to notice, though. I thik it happened to me once or twice while playing the scenario.

EDIT:

I've found my saved game ! It's from a late beta (when we first got access to the scenario). I first attempted to kill the Maniac with the champ below (For the record, Gaylin the Gray IIRC) and i only managed to take his army down with a second stack led by somebody named Klunni. The save has been performed one or two turns after the victory and subsequent ship teleporting.

Hope this is useful ! :)

A suggested fix to the problem (and I can produce this as a temporary fix, until a code change is done), but

if you end the quest by forcing the person to return to the quest location. This might have the unfortunate side effect of moving off the location and go back to the location (haven't tested that, have to experiment with this)

If that is an unfortunate side effect, you could change the quest slightly as Yithril keep the enslaved sailors locked up in a separate location under heavy guard, where the battle takes place there and you return to claim your ship.

This will also prevent the side effect of the ship showing up somewhere else when someone loses the battle, as above.

But I will be intrigued to see what Derek's solution will be.

That could work... However, I think the real problem here is that some quests are somehow 'tied' to the hero that started them - it is this one whose portrait shows up in the 'quest complete' screen and is awarded XP and reward, even if it is another hero that actually completed the quest.

I think it happened to me on another quest, this time with loot (i think this was the 'The troll' quest where a hunter ask you to kill a troll, then comes for you); I started the quest with a champ, completed it with another, but t'was the first that got the loot, even if she was several tiles away... Wasn't game breaking, and I didn't record the save.

I've had the problem happen to me as well, but that happens, I've also notice that if you must return to start location the hero that returns gets the loot. I did this specifically with the Panca archers and started the quest with my sovereign... earned enough fame to get new hero, finished quest with new hero. New hero got the rewards.

Yep, that's exactly what I did.  5*
