Couple of questions for civ player / fairly new FELH

Hi there,

I am veteran Civ player (since the 1st ;-) and a fairly new Fallen Enchantress (LH) player.

I have a couple of questions:

1)       Any general tips / difference when switching from Civ to FE?

2)       Sovereign / champs: I read that I should only have 1 hero/champ per army to have more XP.  (i) How does the XP split formula works ? (ii) Are also the normal troops affected (ie, they will receive less XP when fighting along 2 heroes vs. one ?). (iii) Is the sovereign different from any champion in this regartd ? And in general, do they have any difference ? (iv) With fame, I tend to have lots of champ (ie 4 quite early in my current game). But I clearly not have enough ressources / time to build an army for all those 4. Should I just build an army for 1 or 2 and let the others stationed in city (juste for the small unrest bonus ?). It seems such a waste. Especially early game when I have limited army, having a champion to add punch in an army rather than an empty slot seems better.

3)       Stupid question: how do you rearrange your build queue ?

4)       Scouts… I never really got the point of those guys… The land close to your capital will be covered by your sovereign (to identify city placements…). But exploring fareway lands seem less usefull since they cannot pick treasure chest (vs. in civ they could get the ruins/village huts). Is it only to meet other civs ?

5)       Trading: should you always trade your technologies ? (exemple: 4 “civilization” vs. 4 warfare). Maybe it was a bug but I had the feeling that I lost technologies when I did this…

I love this game ! Terraforming with lower / upper earth is so fun. Revive land as well. You also get so much more specialization compared to civ

Cheers

1) even though the diplomacy AI is on the same general competence level (meaning moderate) in both games, the AI tends to be much more aggressive in LH. It will solely look at your military rating and if you are beneath them they will hate you and very likely declare war on you.

2) each additional hero will half the xp for the entire army, so regular troops are also affected by it. The only real difference between sovereign and heroes is that heroes get an injury if they are defeated in combat and that you lose half your current mana if your sovereign is defeated in combat. Indeed, if you get lots of fame quickly you might have problems finding a suitable occupation for your heroes, but they can be reasonable scouts at the beginning of the game and collect all the items in goodie huts. You can also steal their spirit with a spell if you don't like their stats and if they have a magic school you want for your sovereign. Later on you should have enough money to support several armies for all of them, but there will always be a couple that sit in a city and decrease unrest.

3) drag and drop the icon of the improvement to the position you want it in the building queue when you have a city selected.

4) They can be quite useful at the very beginning of the game, because they are faster than other units and even heroes since they can move through forest, swamp, river and hill tiles without losing an extra movement point. Identifying valuable city spots is very important in this game. Because of this, they are useless for factions that have the Master Scouts trait, like Tarth.

5) If the value is ok for you and the faction you are trading with is not much more powerful than you, you should do it. The difference compared to Civ 5 is that you don't get a new tech for sure, but that the research time will decrease for a random tech within the specific research tree you are trading.

Many thanks !

From now on I will have double the XP by having only one hero per army...

IMHO, the main army should have two heros.  Your sov, and the best 'general/hero you have.  This second hero climbs the army tree, learning how to increase the effectiveness of all units in its stack, +accuracy, etc.  The goal is to have a general who has the +initiative to the entire stack.  The training bonus, etc., is nice as well.
