Jean Stapleton is Gone

How sad is this? Jean Stapleton who played Edith Bunker in "All in the Family" has passed away at age 90.

She only gained stardom at age 50, and "All in the Family" took months to catch on.

"The Edith character was meant to be the naive voice of truth to husband Archie, the bigoted loading-dock worker who railed against the political and social upheavals of the 1960s and ‘70s. With her high-pitched voice, addled enthusiasm and big heart, Edith became a more important character than Lear had imagined. She brought lovability to the role, and audiences embraced Edith for her well-meaning, decent ways." - Hollywood Reporter

Bless you, Jean. So many of us loved you.

Rest in peace, Jean Stapleton.

She played a character that had character and a heart bigger than the city she and Archie lived in. Rest in peace, Jean Stapleton.
