ModernMix feedback/bug reports

I'm a happy user of Start8, and I thought I'd give ModernMix a whirl. It seemed like it would make using the Windows 8 version of Netflix less painful, so I grabbed the trial. I've run into some bugs, though:

- When you run certain Metro apps like PC Settings, the whole screen will flash as if the app is running full-screen and is then windowed. This occurs with PC Settings, but not with Netflix.

- If you are running a Metro app full-screen and alt-tab back to the desktop, any full-screen apps will appear in the start menu with no text (just the icon). If the Metro app is running windowed, the name of the app will be displayed next to the icon as usual. This obviously only impacts users who have enabled text in their task bar (WinXP style).

- If you maximize a Metro app, hit the ModernMix hotkey to fullscreen it, then hit the ModernMix hotkey again, the app will exit fullscreen into windowed mode rather than maximized (the state should return to what it was before fullscreening it)

- It is not possible to set ALT+ENTER as the ModernMix hotkey, attempting to do so sets the hotkey to "None"

- The options under "Should ModernMix limit the size of windows?" can both be selected at the same time, which is redundant (if the second checkbox is selected, the first checkbox has no effect). They should be radio buttons with a "Do not limit the size of windows" option. It would also be useful if one of the options was a custom size (so that I could set it to 1366x768, for example).

- When you click the search button inside a windowed app like Netflix, the search sidebar appears on the desktop rather than inside the application.

I'm going to add a few more bugs here:

  • Global settings do not apply to all Modern applications as they should - when Windows Store is called from another Modern application (e.g. posting a review), it always comes up in a window on the Desktop even when it should come up full screen.
  • The setting to return to the Start Screen when closing full-screen Modern apps does not work - they always return to the Desktop.
  • Not all Modern applications are available in the settings list by default. Windows Store only appears after it is launched, for example.  When it appears, it defaults to windowed on the Desktop, not global settings as expected.
  • You cannot set any application to use default global settings, except by deleting it from the list, which does not work if the application is not listed in the first place, like Windows Store/Weather, and always comes up windowed on the Desktop by default when it is listed (after launch).
