LH errors trying to launch game on Steam

Up until v.90 I have had no problems playing LH on Steam.  Now, when I click the 'Play' button, Steam tries to go through the game setup, and it tries to install "LH_remove_prefs.exe".  It hangs on this and never continues.  The only way I can play the game is to ctrl-alt-del and end that process.

Then, Steam tries part two of the setup, and tries to install "LH_clear_cache.exe" or something like that.  It also hangs here and I have to end the process to continue.  Then it tries twice more, once to try to install "LH_remove_prefs.exe" and once to try to install "LH_clear_cache.exe".  Both times I also have to end the process to continue.

 

So, Steam tries to install four files, but it hangs on each one of them.  I can only continue by ctrl-alt-del and ending each of the four processes. 

Then, the game finally runs and I can play. 

Does anyone know how to fix this, please?  I have tried verifying the integrity of my Steam files, and I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  Nothing helps, and I always get the same problem.

I am hoping for an answer from one of the developers, please.  Is there a way to e-mail Stardock support directly about this?  I could not find a link on their website or in the forums.

I still have issues with the game .exe not closing , especially when the game doesn't CTD.
