[Issue] Umber has a free faction trait point

Umber has 1 too many points spent on their traits.  Either they need to lose Master Scouts, or get a drawback to bring them on par with other factions.  Or (better) get rid of Stealthy and replace it with a new trait that lets them train Naja and Ophidians like Cult of a Hundred Eyes.

I agree. In general, Umber and Tarth are basically mirror images when it comes to faction traits. Umber and Capitar have just been brought back from a long hiatus of premade factions and still need to be balanced a bit to fit LH.

not sure about their lore, but i think the "weakness to magic" might work for them (that trait is currently not used by any of the premade factions, anyway). an ophidian/naja themed 1 point trait would be cool, though (replacing stealthy)

Umber definitely needs to be redone before LH release. Stealthy and Master Scouts should be removed.

+1. I like the ophidan/naja idea too, though vulnerable to magic works too.

Fixed, thanks.

So what did get fixed exactly?

Was the trait removed (which?) or was a weakness added?

I'm gonna tell myself that they got rid of Stealthy and created a snake trainer trait, just for Umber.  Nothing will convince me otherwise. :pout:

They probably got rid of Assassin's Tools.

I doubt it, considering that was the only thing that made umber unique.  I'm betting they gave them some sort of penalty.  A man can dream, though.  A man can dream.

According to the .91 changelog- Umber loses the Stealth faction trait and gains Warriors

Does that resolve the issue they have too many faction points?

Yes, Stealth cost 2 points and Warriors cost 1, now they have 3 points (Warriors +1, Master Scouts +1, Assassin's Tools +1, Masterwork Chainmail +0) spent across their traits like all the other factions. Still, I think they are too close to Tarth and not really fleshed out together with Capitar. They have been brought back without really fitting them into Legendary Heroes.

Too bad.

Maybe no traits should be used more than once over all the normal races?

That would make each one unique.

This is what I've tried to do with my custom builds, but doing so tends to make some races weaker due to the disparity between some of the traits.

Still have issues with the class choices made by AI sovereigns. Built a custom Yithril sov, with no magic traits, set up to be a real bruiser. Encountered him later in game, he'd chosen the Mage path; his only spells were from Aeromancy, at 15th level. Same game, encountered a sov set up to be a mage, with 2 magic traits, of course, she was an Assassin.

The traits assigned to the AI also need more transparency, why do traits such as Expansive/Proud/Militaristic get assigned as they do currently, and is there a way to determine how they are assigned via starting sovereign or faction trait selection?

Too bad Warrior is the worst trait in the game. It allows you to build barracks off the start... Even if barracks were all that useful early game you still need to level a city and build all the prereqs.

i also wonder what the idea behind their default sovereign is. he has some melee oriented abilites, which suggests the probably should be played as an assassin or warrior, but on the other hand he's a beastmaster, which pretty much makes path of the mage mandatory if you want to tame some of the higher level critters (for the extra spell mastery from the prodigy traits - which also opens some nice synergy with his death spellbooks [almost irresistiible wither/curse/mass curse/blind to support his pets] ).

I actually think Capitar has been fleshed out a bit more than Umber, if only because of Legacy of Serrane.  I distinctly remember reading a description of Umber units saying that they can train Naja and Ophidians, despite never having been able to.  I was hoping that the current traits for Umber were just a placeholder until they got the snake charmer trait working, but it looks like that'll have to be modded in.  Looks like a good time as any to learn how to mod.

Well if maybe Warriors could instead unlock Leatherarmor there would be no problems. And the trait would even be good.
