[0.87][Bug] Getting a research goodie hut on the first turn=research goes to nothing

In my most recent game, I got a research goodie hut on the first turn before I had anything lined up in the queue. The +10 research I would have gained went to nothing. 

This is relatively minor issue, as it only really should be a problem on the first turn, but is pretty annoying nonetheless.

Yup It's an annoyance... forces me to remember to select that research before I start to move.... I wouldn't mind seeing a research reserve put in place.

The pseudo fix for this is supposed to be that goodies that give free research arent supposed to be close to starting locations.  But I see that the ruined house can start right next to you.  I've fixed it.

Another idea would be to have folks pick a research item right away independent of founding a city. Might be good to have it that way so if a champion starts with a research benefit that would still work, too.

The problem with that is that its a lot of stuff coming at the player right away.  The flow seems wrong to start the game and have your first decision be the tech you want to research.

This sounds simplistic, but what about making the logic:

If Research > 0 and Research = null, prompt for a research item and then assign points into that item.

The fix Derek did is an XML fix which is decent fix. The hardcode fix you suggest is a good one, but I'd be along the lines of stealthly adding the research bonus to all first level techs. You get ten points, 4 3 3 (four in civics, 3 in military, 3 in magic). That way whenever the player encounters I'm not researching anything the research automatically gets spead among the needed to be research techs.

Also a good suggestion, Parrott. It's always interesting when we run into the same issues that the devs have worked through. Make me feel good that we seeing the same issues, even if the resolution isn't always an easy one.

For some point in future of LH, I'd love to see the notification system generally act like Endless Space's. That system just added notifications along the right side that must be addressed prior to ending the turn. Right now, the pop-up dialogs for LH all require immediate attention (like hero upgrades, research, city upgrades, etc.) and you don't have the opportunity to fix other things on your turn. It's kind of the equivalent of "DO SOMETHING NOW!" instead of allowing me to attend to my different things in a timely manner and research some stuff.
