[.80] Balance af familiar

I played my last game as a mage, and have been trying to use the familiar effectively in combat. I have however big trouble keeping it alive as it has so few hit points and is constantly targeted by enemy archer like characters. The new combat setup is not helping either. The familiar usually start close to the enemy and gets killed quite easely this way. It should realy always start in the back, the same as archers.

I suggest either giving the familiar more hit points or allowing hero type enchantments to be cast on the familiar. I haven't checked but as far as i know, the bonuses from being a summoner is not applied the level of the familiar either. Maybe it should.

Your text seems to end in the middle of a sentence?

Maybe it should         ...   not do that?

Anyways, from the point when you have the Mana Shield Skill HP are no longer a concern. I noticed the Familiar then being pretty damn good. Just because he could cast like my Mage Sovereign. (But that is just that one Quest that you need so its not really helping I guess)

There is also the Guardian Statue with the Sovereign Bond (aka 'can cast all spells your sovereign can') which only spawns during a city defense.

Maybe that thing would be better off being the familiar?

The "maybe it should" was referring the the sentence before. I added a period though :)

i don't think the familiar is meant for direct combat. the way i see it, it's really useful for summoner sovereigns, since it allows you to have additional uses of your strategic summons - and he doesn't have to participate in combat for this purpose. a secondary use is to unlock extra uses of tremor/freeze/pillar of flame etc. if your sov has the appropriate spells unlocked. IMO, those functions are good enough. it really doesn't have to be good at fighting/surviving direct attacks. if your sov doesn't have useful strategic spells/summons, the familiar is pretty useless. i don't think that's a problem, though.

Hm I always did use it that way, but even though I did it. It was always in any other case utterly useless.

Maybe it should do things differently depending on your sovereigns Class?

Meaning Defenders would get a golem (?) and Asssassins a Bear? something along those lines.
