Any more information... what about the 3d map, what is the tile suppose to be?

Hmm, I'll check. I don't use the 3D map anymore; having a city in the frame causes my graphics card to make an odd ticking noise (like what you get if you clip a playing card in a bicycle wheel and spin it, only not as loud).

3D map shows an open patch of purple-tinted ground (same color as the tiles immediately to the west and south), but without a road on it (the aforementioned flanking tiles do have roads, but they were perfectly visible BEFORE gaining those roads, so, that may not be relevant).

ETA: Reloading the saved game did not fix the black tile.

That black tile is a error in the definition of the stamp (or missing data) (I think), so there is no tool-tip when you highlight the land... no terrain name?

Sounds like the fan of your graphics card isn't spinning fast enough. I had the same problem with the fan of my CPU-cooler recently. It was set to automatic before, but was going too slow occasionally, making this odd ticking noise. Setting the fan to a constant speed fixed it.

I'll look into that, but are you seriously suggesting the 3D map is underutilizing the gfx card more than, say, my desktop?

3D map mode in this game is *the only* time it does that.

Still, I'll look into that.

No, just that the automatic mode may not set the fan to be fast enough for some reason.

Not fan speed. Ticking noise evident from 35%-100% fan speed (got hard to hear at the high end though, thanks to fan pitch). GPU temp has doubled from a desktop idle of 30C (@35% fan speed) to 60C (@35% fan speed) with 3D map view of a single city, zoomed down to build mode. GPU temp is settling to 53/54C zoomed out to cloth map.

Cranking fan speed to 100% (far too noisy to do all the time) gets me down to 49C on 3D map, and 43C on cloth map...

It is registering as Cerai (my custom faction name) Plains, in both Cloth and 3D maps.

I dispatched a unit to the tile, the unit renders fine on both maps, tile remains black on cloth map.
