Sometimes you learn the hard way that your Hardware is outdated
Like the title says sometimes you buy hardware to improve your workflow or experience. And then something doesn’t fit or works.
ZONK
Normally I research the web and make sure that the hardware is compatible with my system board and so on secondly I try to figure out the specs look for reviews and tests of the hardware then I compare the brands that are existing and last I want to know noise levels of the hardware since its standing right on my desk.
In my case the update was required since I got artefacts on my old gtx560 1gb phantom card.
So I searched for quite a while and decided to buy a GTX 670.
I picked the ASUS GTX670-DC2T-2GD5/OG as replacement it has 2 GB of ram and only has 5% less power than the GTX680 but it is far more silent than the 680 even under full stress.
well enough about the card back to the main topic.
I got the card unpacked it and build it in but when i wanted to plug in my two Samsung monitors (both VGA) i noticed that my DVI connector would not fit on the second DVI card output.
I thought what is wrong... then I noticed that it’s not DVI-I it was DVI-D
So I had 2 choices return the card or buy a new monitor to replace the VGA input with DVI-D ( i know there is VGA to HDMI( converters but these things are close to 80 EUROS ) and then I would have to buy a cable... I thought no. Let’s get rid of the old Monitor it served me well for over 4-5 years.
SO I bought a Monitor online over a Mediamarkt GmbH it’s a pretty common electronic store here.
I also gathered info as much as I could over the net to make sure to not buy crap.
The Model name was Acer S S271HLBbid - 27" Full HD LED Monitor 2ms 1920x1080dpi D-Sub HDMI
I thought 2ms are great because I like to play some FPS games now and then.
The price was about 230 euros
I placed my order.
Monitor arrived 3 days later I unpacked it set it up great picture and BIG since I went from 22 to 27 it was a huge jump.
All was great until I wanted to take the Box of the monitor and bring it up to the storage. I noticed that the specs are written on the box as well.
But the box specs were different from the specs displayed on the homepage where I bought it from, it did not had 2ms it had 10ms response time.
I tried playing some games and had really bad screen tearing especially when i went from white to black in a quick motion.
Also I noticed ghosting on text scrolling. Contacted the company and they told me it would have 2ms.. They didn’t even bother about it... so I contacted Acer directly and they confirmed that the Model only had 10ms...
I had a bunch of calls with the company where I bought it from and asked for a replacement and they said they could not get any other Monitor but would have one from Samsung with 2ms in store.
SO I repacked the Monitor carefully and then drove to the store. Sadly when I arrived and took a look at the Samsung monitor it had no DVI but asked the Guy on the phone 3 times if it has a DVI-D port
Anyway the Monitor did not had the DVI-D slot it had none only VGA and HDMI. So I drove 60 kilometer for nothing and took the Monitor back home.
(I took it back home since they didn’t want to pay out my money in return of the Monitor.)
So I researched a little and found out that they took the specs of a different model of Acer (S S271HLAbid) and just copy pasted to the Acer S S271HLBbid.) Wonder if I’m the only one who noticed it.
I contacted the store again and ask if they could replace the monitor since they had false information on their site selling it that way and continued selling it with the same info.
I asked for the Acer S S271HLAbid and they said they would call me back or send me a mail.
5 days later and still nothing, I called Acer and got a offer in less than 15 minutes.
Acer support was amazing very friendly and informative the monitor picture was also good but I simply had a bunch of bad luck as you will read with products from them and then decided to buy for another brand.
(Just to let you know I have nothing against Acer and their products I just want to rage a little about that trashy company I bought it from.)
After 5 days and calling Acer myself I contacted the company and asked about my proposition.
After they told me they couldn’t reach Acer I made use of my right and return the monitor in exchange for the money since they couldn´t replace the product and sold it with false specs.
After another 4 days phoning with that company I finally got the confirmation that I would get my money back.
BTW I drove to the store another time to give back the monitor while not receiving my Money directly!
Frustrated I then Ordered another Acer Monitor over a real good electronic store.
Sadly that one had a subpixel error and I had to return it as well. Returned it quick and painless.
I then said F… it I will buy two 27inch Monitors!
Wanted to buy two Monitors of the same brand because my old Samsung had a yellowish screen compared to the 27inch screen. I had before and it was quite distracting and ugly looking, but told my lady that I only buy it because if one is broken I would still have another one that might work and I could simply return the other one without problems and won’t have to wait another week to get a working Monitor Finally.
The truth was I was greedy… She knows now since I have 2 of them haha
So i bought two Monitors but not Samsung or Acer.
I went for Iiyama...ProLite E2773HS. The company immediately returned my money for the Monitor that had the subpixel error when I showed them the tracking number.
The Iiyamas are great, picture is sharp crisp no dead pixels no subpixel errors tested these directly with UDpix hehe they have a bita tad wider pixels than the Acer but compensate that with 1ms reaction time great response in general no ghosting or screen tearing and they have all the plugs I wanted+ all cables included HDMI VGA DVI. Actually that was also the first time I tested screensavers on windows8 just to find out the screensavers are now made for dual screens ![]()
Hope I didn’t bore you to death with this but if you don’t want to end up like me research and make sure that you don’t forget things like I did.
OH and spare yourself the trouble of buying Monitor in store order it online you can always return it if you buy it in store plug it in and take a look if it has flaws like dead pixel subpixel ( Monitors are allowed to have up to 4 of these dead pixels and the company doesn’t have to take them back!!!!!!!!!!) Means if you buy it in a store and notice dead pixels subpixel at home you might be not able to return it.
