[1.3] Blind spell nerf

Took a close look at the 1.3 changelog last night.

I noticed that effect of blind has been reduced from 50% down to to 25%. I disagree with this decison.

If it was felt that blind was OP, then IMO, the manna cost should have been increased (e.g. Kurt's volcano), or the duration decreased.

As it stands now, the the spell should be renamed the "nearsighted" spell.

Yeah I saw that also and it might just as well be removed from the game because there's better things to use instead of a 25% chance of blind working. In my experience in life a blind person is BLIND there's no 25% 50% 75% if you are TRUELY BLIND then it's 100% bub the rest are just near sighted or far sighted or putting on to get free money in the parks. ;)

Blind is extremely potent.

High dodge army + blind + infection is a brutal combo.

Not every one has a high dodge army or can cast the infection spell...

That being said, I think it would be better to increase the manna cost or decrease the spell duration rather than nerfing the effect.

I don't mind the nerf, I think blind was waaay too important before the nerf.

Now it IS specific I know, but still have some usage.
That said, slightly more potent and timed would also be cool (still, 50% is a lot if you also have dodge, but meaby its nice with combo-able spells and abilities)

I was thinking 3-turn duration would fit for 50% reduction.

Agreed. Blind needs higher %miss and a duration added to the spell.

Very true, just giving it an example where it is rather OP and buffing it isn't going to make things any better.

I have taken on epic monster groups with a medium group consisting of sov + peasants with staff and robes basically using that strat with a custom wraith race. (lucky + enchanter)

Don't worry, I am honestly not disagreeing with you just "because you are you" or anything like that, I like your posts as you come with new ideas... I just don't entirely agree with all of them.

As I said, I would think blind would also be interesting at 50% loss of accuracy in a 3 turn time limit thing. But the 50% loss of accuracy for the rest of the battle is quite potent even with no dodge, on any monster, and it is a key element to countering "Maul", the biggest problem I have with this is that its a faction-specific spell (4 out of 8 standard factions can cast it, due to you needing to be an empire faction) So I think it should be balanced to be equally good to life spells.
I would take Death magic solely for the purpose of getting the old blind spell...

To be honest, this is cheating :P

Blind in its old form was way overpowered.  If the accuracy/dodge/to-hit formula was redone to diminishing returns then it could have stayed at 50%, but with linear math it had to be nerfed.

It's just another change that makes magic of little importance in a game about magic.

+1 Dang you're on a roll. ;) I really get tired of nerfs when they make statements like "It's YOUR game, play it anyway YOU LIKE". Then they nerf the crap out of it or do STUPID things like taking heroes off the map. But It's YOUR game play it any way YOU like" lmao Bout as truthful as the "Gamers Bill of Rights" hahaha

I just had a thought. What does it matter if a spell is OP?

There isn't any public leaderboard or public ranking system.

So if someone "cheats", or uses an exploit, they are only cheating themselves.

It's like cheating at Solitaire...

Exactly.  This is my attitude to the problem and I am very dissapointed that this quick and dirty fix was adopted 8C

Some time ago one or two threads here made comprehensive suggestions about how the accuracy / dodge problem could be solved when the Wraiths were given the inherent +20 dodge and some people thought that was overpowered.  Unfortunately instead of biting the bullet and solving the problem accuracy / dodge problem for good Stardock have scapegoated a previously useful spell and still left other parts of the same problem untouched.

When will they solve this?  Will it be fixed in LH or will that also suffer from this.

Actually also you can't cheat yourself. You know what you're doing. ;)

Just replace blind with WEBBED now as I have. Works great, you can still sit back and just pulverize the creature(s) with ranged attacks though you'll take SOME damage now if the creature is ranged....oh wait.....the AI doesn't attack if it is WEBBED. lol Back to overpowered again. ;)
