Deskscapes Beta for Windows 8

Deskscapes Beta for Windows 8

How to put this...

Mr Banfield,

I LOVE YOU!!!

Deskscapes is working wonderfully thus far. Windows 8 Pro 64bit.

Even my old purchased dream, Liquid Dream, installed and works flawlessly.

I had to do a restart though for Deskscapes to start functioning. Maybe have the restart as part of the install process?

Anyway, I'm tickled pink.

Now Mr Banfield, where is my WINDOwBLINDS!?!?

Just joking. If the Windowblinds beta works like Deskscapes beta the wait will be WELL worth it.

Cheers mate and to all at Stardock.

Ok! It's great! I have a couple of questions tho...does desktop collage work for anyone? Will it work soon? and on bliss (paid dream) the edge does not go all the way to the edge of my screen while all others do. I don't think it's me Ive tried all the settings and get nothing. I would like more dreams like desktop collage too! Overall its great! Love start8 too! Well worth the price!

I'M kinda upset at myself today for purchasing deskscapes thinking the beta was out for people that purchased it and having windows 8 . Sadly i Just found out the Beta is only for people that can afford the expensive package object desktop. I think its wrong for stardock to only offer them the beta and not Us budget people . Now i don't know if i'm out 10 dollars for a windows 7 or lower software or if i have to wait for a windows 8 beta later . Makes Me Sad :hugme:

No, it's quite logical, as Object Dektop subscribers typically are more up to speed with handling GUI modding programs and can understand a Beta bug when it bites them.

Casual users are more likely to forget a release is in fact a beta and be unwilling to tolerate faults.

It is also a process where-by  Stardock can offer the subscribers something more/first...;)

If you purchased recently you will get the Windows 8 version of DeskScapes as a free upgrade.

It should do yes.  Make sure you pick image locations in the settings.

I am getting this error when trying to run DeskScapes for Windows 8.  This is from my event viewer.

I was able to temporarily get this to work.  I say temporarily because it's working now but I'm not sure for how long lol

Run msconfig, reboot into safemode in Win 8, run Deskscapes 8 & Apply to Desktop, re-run msconfig and reboot normally.

Since installation of deskscapes fences is not usable  Tried uninstalling fences and re-installing multiple boots still not working, in fact all desktop icons have disappeared???

I believe I have found a bug. About 95% of all of the Dreams are not showing up on both of my monitors with the "apply to all my monitors". This even includes some of the pre-installed Dreams.

My setup is as follows:

Dual 1080P 24" Screens

Display 1 | Display 2

Display 2 is primary monitor. If Display 1 is set as the primary, the dreams work as expected.

I see this same thing.

I'm looking forward to the general release of this. I have been wanting it since I upgraded to Windows 8 and found the Mass Effect video dreams on You Tube. Keep up the good work and hope Deskscapes 8 is released soon (I would in fact pay for beta access >.> but I understand the limited release).

Quoting ianst102453342, reply 6I have to agree. This beta is working wonderfully so far and it's really making me excited as to what you guys can do with Windowblinds 8. I'd like to bring a possible bug to attention though. I haven't used previous versions of deskscapes along with fences yet but now that I'm using Deskscapes I can't see the borders of my fences when I hover over them. I can still drag the fence around but it's a bit of a guess where the borders are. FYI I'm using Win 8 pro x 64 and have the latest versions of both softwares. Hope this helps. Anyone else have this issue?

Have you rebooted since installing?

Fences can get a little upset if DeskScapes is installed after Fences is already running, but a reboot should sort it.

I love Deskscapes both in Win7 and now Win8, however my Fences Pro 2 doesn't seem to like it, the fences disappear and you cannot move icons around once DeskScape is running, I suppose Fences hasn't been Windows 8ified yet so can't really complain.  As an aside FX5 which didn't work for me in Win7 works perfect in Win8.  Also with regard to the codecs someone else has mentioned I have Windows Media Centre installed and it still moans about cewrtain codecs missing when I use certain dreams.

Saying all that keep up the good work guys, I will be renewing my object desktop and wincustomise subscriptions so more win 8 compatibility updates please (especially Fences, really missing that as it doesn't seem to like dreamscapes).

A reboot should resolve things.

This is because of the codecs used to encode. the movies.

all of a sudden it decided to work

and it works suprisingly well i couldn't beleive it when i saw it but it seems to use 5 mb of ram and 0% of cpu usage

though there are a few things i don't like

the video gets killed if you press the corner desktop button

i'd also like the desktop to move even in modern ui as now the desktop button in modern ui is just a black square

that or let the user have a custom picture for the thumbnail view of the desktop
