CursorFX for Win8 workaround

I've been a long time Cxp/Cfx user, and have just upgraded to Windows 8. I realize that Cfx isn't compatible with Win8 yet, but since I've become so attached to my customized cursors on WinXP, I was wondering if there is any way to export them into .ani format so that I can continue to use them until a Win8 version of Cfx is released. I wouldn't bother asking, since a developer should be able to rebuild from his own working files, but since I created my cursors (with GIMP) ~10 years ago, I can't find my original working files - probably lost in one of many hardware upgrades over the years. I'm really looking forward to a Win8 version! Thanks.

Officially no, but I think you will find that CFX will work just fine on Win8. At one time, you wouldn't see a cursor on the  Metro start screen but I believe that has been fixed. If not, just hit Control+Shift+C to toggle back to the default Windows cursor.

Works fine for me, in Modern UI and the desktop. I don't have to do anything special.

Me n Kitty got CFX running almost "everywhere" on 8 |-)

Maybe it´s a configuration issue ?

Works Great for me as well.  You may need to install the newest version from stardock central.  Ver 2.11 of Cursor FX Plus has patch in it for Windows 8 start Screen missing cursors.  Try uninstall, reboot, and reinstall.  I believe they had kept the same version number as previous release of it so it may not show as an update in stardock Central.

Cheers all

From what I understand, if you uninstall CFX, run a registry cleaner (CCleaner, Wise or even better both) and then reinstall it, it works fine on Windows 8.

You don't need to run the clwaner. Just install the latest build.

Same version number, new goodness.

i just installed it today

Thanks all! I got it figured out - all I had to do is set the installer to run in WinXP compatibility mode and run as Admin.

Hello all,

Just a quick note to confirm that I too had issues with cursor fx when I first installed win 8.

I noticed that it was not compatible with win 8 so I uninstalled it thinking Stardock would fix sooner or later.

I read the forum article this morning and deleted the old set up file I had previously downloaded.

I used Stardock central to download the latest file and install cursor fx again all works fine.

I did not have to use registry cleaners, just uninstall and reinstall seemed to work for me in desktop mode and the start screen.
