Transparency with windows 8 compatibility

Object Desktop is a subscription service, not a single product. At any one time applications are being introduced for a new OS, being adapted to be compatible with a new OS, or are being discontinued as no longer relevant to a new OS.

This is on-going, and not particular to [the current release of] Windows 8, but has been the case since OD's inception.

As a subscription, any time within its 12 month period any number of Applications may be added/altered/revised and, as is currently the case changed specifically to keep in tune with Microsoft's new offerings.

It's not about being 'transparent and ethical' it's simple assumption of understanding of a product/service which has been in effect for more than a decade. Stardock and its customers are aware of the methodology to the point that perhaps hand-holding for the uninitiated may be overlooked....

I'm not a longtime customer. As a matter of fact, I've only just recently made a first purchase from Stardock. I say this to preclude any asinine fanboy or shill accusations that will most likely be levied regardless.

It's been very easy to discern which products are Windows 8 ready and which are not. As a matter of fact, this info can be found prominently on the main consumer software page and on the page of each individual program.

Only an abject idiot would purchase something blindly without performing at least a minimum of due diligence in checking the product they are purchasing to see if it's something they may need or want. Let's think about this critically for a moment, shall we? You say you were "brought here" investigating a $5 program and are then presented with a very summarized comparison to a $50/year subscription service. A reasonable consumer would delve a little deeper with a basic cost/benefit analysis given the exponentially higher price of the bundle compared to the single product. Yes, I'm sure the extra click to the individual product page is a burden to some, but we again return to the reasonable consumer concept- a reasonable consumer is going to look into at least those portions of the bundle that pique their interest and verify that the $50 subscription is justifiable in their own set of circumstances.

That being said. It only takes a perusal of these forums and reviews on other sites to note that the majority of folks who have had dealings with them consider Stardock to be both "transparent" and ethical," your attempt at poisoning the well aside.

Even amoung supported software and hardware configurations, it is possible for a software product not to work or not to work as designed so it always makes sense to try before you buy. I would also check out the product forum prior to trying/buying any software product. It has also been posted here the timeframe for the beta Windows 8 version of WindowBlinds for those who want to wait before buying the subscription just to be sure.

Well then, to be fair, I should have read more and gotten a better understanding that it was a subscription service. It does say it on that page where the 2 applications are shown I guess, that have a link to purchase right from there, that would make it my fault. Otherwise I stand by what I said.

I would have then only purchased start8 if I understood that.

That's the point, arabia1, it's NOT a 'f-up' at all. IF you had purchased a product which was simply NOT compatible with your OS - THEN there'd be one. Instead you have subscribed to a service which WILL see the products compatible [if not so already].... and when they are the OD purchase is the most economical option. [all the programs are available individually which is naturally dearer]...

From the looks of it, you've never lost sight of what's important through it all- maintaining your sense of humor and having fun. Like the others have said, this is a purchase you're sure to end up not regretting. I've seen from your other post where you had a situation that would, of course, cause most anyone some concern. While it was resolved (hopefully to your satisfaction), I know that something like what initially happened with your purchase can leave a sour taste in one's mouth. While problems are few and far between, that can be little consolation for a first-time customer in the midst of an issue such as the one you had.

The good news is that not only are some of the core programs scheduled for impending compatibility updates, but they are also improving upon those programs that already work with Windows 8. I haven't got around to updating to it, but the newest beta of Start8 looks intriguing. Also, while some of the components of OD aren't "officially" supported for Windows 8 just yet, a few of them do work.
