Multiple Start8's in Programs and Features

This morning I was in my installed programs to do some cleanup and I saw 2 Start8 entries.  I decided to delete to the oldest one (1.02 I presumed) and it gave me an error, sorry don't know what it said.  So I decided to delete the other one and re-install.  When I did I tried to apply my license key and it told me it was invalid so I installed the free trial.  When I restarted it remembered all my settings.  My question is, was my key invalid because it was still applied?  Is there a way to see if I am on the trial or the registered version.
