Is FE a mandatory steamworks DRM game?

When I checked distributors like Gamersgate, Gamestop(sigh) and gamefly thier store-pages all mentioned that I would need to use Steam to download and play this game.  Stardock's storepage only says that I must have an internet connection.  If I buy it from stardock do I still need to install via Steam?

Personally I'd rather NOT have to deal with steam in any capacity to play this game, and I see no benefit to using steamworks drm either.

if you buy from stardock you  don't need steam. however it is not possible to unlock your stardock key for E:FE on steam.

Buy the game from stardock.com and it doesn't use steamworks.

there is TWO benefits for buying from the stardock store

1 NO STEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 stardock (the developers AND publisher of the game) get all the price, steam other shops get NOTHING.

I'd agree with Harpo: whenever possible, buy from the source, so they get all the proceeds.

As others said, buy it through the SD store and download it via SD Central get a great game, no DRM, no 3rd party app running in the background.  It's even on sale right now!

FE does not use Steamworks. Those sites are just reselling Steam keys.

I hate steam, just bought a comp. from my woman's brother, full of steam games, I used them as a demo (had Mass Effect I, decided to buy part 3), then steam is to be deleted in it's entirety
