Internet connection icon

I've never had a problem with my internet connection icon in my system tray showing that I have a connection by turning green... I put Fences on my desktop and suddenly the internet icon is X's out with a red X... I am still connected, but the system tray says I'm not...

I put Fences on my laptop and the exact same thing happened, not immediately, but shortly after. Any thoughts on this? Could Fences be causing it? Seems like it's pretty well indicated since I've never had the problem and now I have it on both computers right after installing Fences.
