Where Are All the People?

I remember the FE screenshots (and advertising) showing the cities populated by people, but all of my cities are ghost towns.  Where are all of the people?

There is a setting in options to turn them on. Basic Options, middle column.

You need to be running 64 bit to see them though and zoomed in.

Thank you for your reply.  I have checked the Basic Options, middle column and everything is already turned on (except particle effects).  What is the setting called?

Are you 32bit or 64bit? I guess maybe it is only there for 64biters?

It's only there for 64 bit computers. Memory issues prevent it for 32 bit (so the devs turned it off)

I believe that I'm using an Athlon 64 duel-core processer.  Shouldn't that be enough?

Your operating system determines if you are running 32 or 64 bits. You should be able to check from System Information.

For example, in my System Information the System Type says x64-based PC, which means I'm running 64 bits.

It would be great to be able to toggle how far out you can see these details.  Especially with the latest performance updates, it wouldn't even make a dent on game performance (on my PC anyway) to see these details without being zoomed in.  As of now, I basically never see these details because you have to be zoomed in nearly to the max for them to show up.  I also noticed that there are other neat details besides people that show up, like pennants on tower spires, etc.  It's a shame that we basically never see them.  A wasted feature as it is currently, in my opinion.

Check the advanced options, there should be zoom detail sliders or something similar there.

Here's what my system properties say...

    AMD Athlon 7850 Dual-Core processor

    2.80 GHz, 3.37 GB of RAM

    Physical Address Extension

and I know my processor is an AMD Athlon 64

Go to your control panel / system and security / system

Then on the list there is system type: 64 bit operating system.

If it doesn't read 64 bit operating system you are not going to see pedestrians. Your system may be upgradable to a 64 bit system. In fact, if you have your windows 7 install cd's you might be able to upgrade to 64 bit without cost. But there are some programs that will refuse to run on 64 bit systems (old ones).

A glance through my motherboard manual, under CPU, lists the AMD Athlon 64 processor (K8).  I always assumed that that meant that my Athlon 64 was running 64 bit.

No problem. I'm running windows 7 and that is the sub-folder that I have.

Now you can decide whether upgrading to 64 bit windows is appropriate for you.

it's pretty obvious he is running 32bit..

If your running 64 it's because you requested or you wanted to run 64.

Plus with the amount of memory he has it's a moot point..

That is only the amount of memory the system can see. He may have more memory that is going un-utilized.

Thanks for the link, Value.  Now my situation is obvious.  I am running Windows XP Home edition - which only comes as a 32-bit version.  To see the people, I need to be running the Windows XP Professional Version.

I think XP has a specific 64 bit version, but it's pretty bad. I'd get either win7 or win8 64 bit.

I was thnking about either the XP 64-bit or the Wiin8 64-bit.  Does anyone have any thoughts on either of these?

I was recently in a similar situation. Vista 32 bit, 4 GB ram, only 3.2 GB or so visible to OS. Upgraded to Win 7 64 bit and that improvement alone made the game much more enjoyable. Can't give you advice on Win 8 but highly recommend Win 7 64 bit. Giving the game up to that 4GB is like night and day.

I can also recommend the 64 bit Win 7. It's been the best Windows for me so far and I would recommend it above XP.

I haven't tried Win 8 on a desktop computer or a laptop. I've read some reviews and they are rather discouraging, so I'm sticking with 7.
