No one is making you pay anything.
1. You can download up 100 megs of stuff without doing anything (100 megs is a lot).
2. If you have contributed to this site in some way, the download restriction does not
apply to you. To contribute:
a. Participate in the message boards and help folks out (its free, its easy to do).
b. upload some stuff (again, its free)
c. Subscribe to the site
d. Register a product
3. The money for the subscription is not for charging for skins. Its to help offset the cost of the bandwidth of this site. This site uses ALOT of bandwidth. Bandwidth is not cheap, especially with the downturn in the the .COM economies. Despite the big net pipes this site uses, it still gets hammered. This does not come for free.

Can you spare 83 cents per month?
Can you contribute to in a significant way to this site?
Can you register your Stardock software?

It only takes a little effort to remove that 100M barrier. Give a little back OK!

see.... once again somebody posts subject matter like this but the guy never uploads anything to the site or does news or engages in the message board (except to put up a comment like this)

this guy just downloads.... I have to admit I did not know about bandwidth and most people probably don't either. So all they see is "I can't download for free?? What the f@#$!"

Then they leave a message like this and never come back to read the responces.

Giving back seems to be a problem. I guess the site looks too much like a community site instead of a company web site. So people think it should be a free for all.

I pay because I want this site to be around when I log on. I don't have to, I own ODN, I post on the message board, and I'm a skinner, but I pay anyway. No one is forcing you.

You know with ALL CAPS and "SUX" in the subject, you're going to have a real intellectual message inside.

Or maybe people do not read the explaination for the cap on downloads.

It is really just frustrating sometimes to see someone post something like this and then for them to not even respond or say "I don't get it!!"

This is funny I will probably be the only one to answer these guys from now on because others will be tired of explaining this subject over and over again. I have like super human abilities when it comes to patients.

It seems so stereotypical that these sorts of messages are usually in uppercase with some
aggressive subject line. Sort of the net equivalent of temper tantrum.

And the message usually contained within is inevitably semi-incoherent or lacking any cogent presentation of the poster's arguments. It amounts to running into a room, tossing a stink bomb, then running off.

This does seem to come up over and over,I don't see anything wrong in giving somthing back even if it is money.(a small amount for what you get back)People need to find somthing else to complain about this is getting old.

I personally find it kind of funny because odds are, to download 100 megs they're using either warez versions of the programs or abusing the shareware of it.

So the first question should really be, "I you've downloaded a 100 MEGABYTES of skins and themes, what's your excuse for not registering?"

When he was leeching people's work, he didn't seem to care much about skin authors. But now, suddenly it's not that he's just a leech, no, he's a defender of skinners rights. Not that he's ever submitted anything mind you. Not that he's commented on skins or the message board of course.

OK, so there are 'some' who complain about DL limits and paying to offset band-width costs....but what is more 'important' is that there are obviously many who actually understand and embrace this policy/issue....

i just think it's entertaining that if the title of this thread was up in the title of the site, wc would suddenly get even -more- popular..
