Errors with icons
I have installed the latest version, however I am experiencing issues with wrong icons in the programs menu. They seem to be ok after a reboot, but then mess up again after a while.

I have installed the latest version, however I am experiencing issues with wrong icons in the programs menu. They seem to be ok after a reboot, but then mess up again after a while.

Same problem here, sometimes they correct themselves without rebooting. The corrupted icons happen randomly, some are ok while others are corrupted.
In the third shot, the icons corrected themselves within 5 minutes of taking a screenshot of the first two.
I had this issue with 1.0 and the current 1.01. Apart from that everything works great.

This seems to be a corruption of the file icons, try running the program referred to in Article 2396571 Microsoft.
I solved my problem as well
Mine only returned to normal after a restart and have never rectified themselves.
It's strange, because all the other start menu apps I tried didn't have this issue and the issue only existed with start8. I have tried the fix suggest above and will see how it goes.
If that doesn't resolve it, then I will unistall and use one of the other apps instead, which is a shame as start 8 is definitly the best I've come across.
I am having this problem too...

edit; After using the suggestion above of running http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2396571 it worked. Hope it doesn't came back...
This started with v1.01. I dont know for sure it was 1.00 but i dont remember see it before.
My icons are messed up too with v1.01

To anyone using Start8 and encountering this issue, is your install a clean Windows 8 install or an upgrade over an existing install of Windows 7?
Clean Windows 8 Pro install...
Clean Windows 8 Pro install.
Can you think of anything you may have done before it shows up as a problem? Did you install a new app, run a game, change display resolution, change Start8 settings?
Neil. At least on mine, and probably on tfouto's, the problem seems to be related to translucency.
The translucency seems to be permanently enabled on the icons. I tried enabling and disabling translucency from the style menu, but that didn't fix it.
I upgraded over the top of Win 7 Pro SP1. Since deleting the icon cache the problem seems to have fixed itself. Hopefully it stays like this.

Clearing the icon cache worked for me too, richardtrahar.
Here is a handy little tool for anyone wanting to easily clear the icon cache.

Looks like the icon cache fix also worked for me.
For the record, I installed no apps after start 8 and agree with the above comment that it is some how related to translucency. What I noticed was that when I was on the desktop I could see parts of the wallpaper where the icons should be.

Microsoft issue an update today that corrects icons problems. It seems it's a Windows 8 problem and not start8.
I have not had the problem return since I cleared the icon cache.
We have made a change for upcoming builds which should ensure it doesn't happen again.
Well, the problem has returned. I already have the ms update installed and only seems to affect the "All Programs" part of the menu.
Just realised I was still on version 1.0, now updated to 1.03, so will see how it goes.
I can confirm I also have the same issue with build 1.03 on my computer.
A lot of the programs in the all programs list are showing the wrong icons.
If you have the wrong icons then you most likely have a corrupt icon cache.
The issue reported originally in this thread was addressed in 1.02.
What causes the icon cache to get corrupt?
Some sort of bug in the OS. Sometimes too many icons.
I've cleared the icon cache twice in the last week, but the problem persists. Although I now have a different issue.

The icons stay ok, but the menu has other issues.
If I minimise any windows I get this
I noticed that if I unchecked "Disable translucency" in the config menu of Start8 the problem resolves itself, even when re-enabling translucency.
So looks like it could be translucency related. I'm going to leave transluceny on and see if/when it happens again.
