Stardock key vs Steam keys

Is there a way I can get my stardock key converted into something that works on steam? As it stands if I paste my stardock key into steam it tells me where to go. :(

No sorry, this is not possible. It has been stated by Frogboy during the beta. Don't ask why, but it's not possible to convert those keys. But no worries, while Steam is great, you can easily download anything you need from the Stardock store.

It actually makes sense. They can't link the stardock accounts to the steam accounts. So if they give every stardock purchaser a steam keu, half (or more) of those keys are going to be handed over to other people. I get a key -> I give it a friend so he can play.

Ooooor they could just give a steam a list of keys (the stardock ones) they want accepted via steam and they can add them to their database.

How does that change anything? I could still give it away.

And why would Steam want to support for free someone who didn't spend any money on the game with them?

Well steam supports the ability to register third party keys (not 100% sure how this work but I have several games I purchase from other companies or in box forms that are not steam-works games but i can still (optionally) register the key on steam. It is true with these box games I could give the game to a friend and just play the version off steam (the ones I have have cd checks when using the box version). Anyways If I could register FE on steam I would so I didn't have to download 3+GB everytime there is an update (for reasons i don't understand stardock patches blow away my windows 7 mount point and the patches don't work). - Anyways not really a complaint - i can't register the key so i just download the game from stardock. It works.

In some sense (given the second steam thread) I feel this is a damn if you do damn i you don't situation. I know that for steamworks games folks whine and whine that they have to use steam and there should be a way to buy a game without using steam. Hum. Oh well.
