I have the same problem and also have Win7 64x. As soon as I start or enable Fences Explorer crashes and restarts over and over. It's completely unusable.

I'm experiencing a similar issue since upgrading to Fences 2 from Fences Pro: When I first log onto my Windows 7 x64 laptop, Explorer.exe crashes.

I have the same issue if I start the Control Panel right after a reboot.  I do this to check for updates.  I use XYExplorer rather than the Windows explorer but I haven't set the option to have it repalce the Windows Explorer.  I will reinstall fences and try that and see if XYExplorer crashes.

It is quite possible that the problems could be with Windows and not a bug in Fences.  Also if we could figure out out to reproduce the problem consistantly, hopefuly it can be resolved.  I am willing to try any beta patches to help since I image my system.

I JUST CHECKED PROGRAM COMPATIBILITY WITH WIN7-86 AND THE TROUBLESHOOTING REPORT SHOWED FENCE 2 TO BE "INCOMPATIBLE APPLICATION".  

RIGHT CLICK ON PROGRAM IN START MENU AND RUN TROUBLESHOOT COMPATIBILITY. STARDOCK CLAIMS IT IS COMPATIBLE, IS THIS TROUBLESHOOTING ACCURATE?    

I modified Fences to run in admin mode.  I also deleted the Files and Folder fence since I don't realy need it and it just contained 2 desktop.ini files that I also deleted.  Is it possible that Fences was trying to use a file the Explorer wanted since anything that was added to the desktop would be moved to a fence?

Hopefiuly it won't crash again.

I have had this issue with fences ever since doing a clean rebuild with Win 7 64 bit.... the slightest change to any icon in a group... e.g. rename or drag a new one in or out and then 3 explorer restarts before fences disables itself due to the errors. If you immediately re-enable the same crash repeats. Only a cold reboot will get it working again.

As for not working with network shortcuts... why not.. with the advent of low cost NAS at home people are more and more likely to have links to remote storage folders which yes could be "offline" until you click on them... the software should be able to deal with that, after all its in the windows API spec for such links.

I still use fences but I have to ensure that I snapshot before any changes... and then do them one at a time snapshotting each time.... its very rare that I can do more than one action before a crash.

Also had been around the loop of uninstalling one by one each prog... e.g antivirus, steam etc... to see if something specific was causing the issue.

This is still true even if its installed on a virgin SSD Win 7 64 bit build with absolutely no other software other than the detected device drivers having been installed.

I've come to the conclusion that it may be something to do with my hardware setup... being an overclocked CPU and GFX card... but then again every other prog and game I run deals with this setup no problem.... guess this software simply cannot deal with all system setups.....

Before 7 when I was on XP SP3 fences was flawless... go figure...

And i apologise if any of this came over as terse or short... its been a long time saga with me....

I had the same problem of Windows Explorer crashing when Fences tried to run.  I got rid of a shared network folder created by NetWork Magic and that solved my problem.  Fences is running great now.
