Reached Download Limit

I just tried to download a WindowBlinds skin and got a message saying I had reached my download limit. The last time I downloaded a WindowBlinds skin  was at the end of June and  I downloaded some wallpapers at the end of July. My profile says I haven't been on the site since last November but actually I'm here about once a week or so. I have checked Stardock Central and there are no recent changes in WindowBlinds. So what has changed just in the last month ? And yes, I have cleared cookies and cache.

Actually, looking at it again I"m not sure what that last active thing means. I haven't used this forum before but I've been downloading on this site for over 2 years.

Those that are current members (paid subscription) of WinCustomize.com and customers who have an ObjectDesktop subscription which has not expired have unlimited downloads from the galleries. Otherwise there is a download limit of 500MB.

If either of those situations applies to you then I would email support@stardock.com and have them look into it.

If you were a Wincustomize subscriber you would also get unlimited downloads.

When you purchase an application you get 1 year of unlimited downloads.  After that the download caps for WinCustomize go back into place.

If you enjoy the site, I would suggest subscribing to get unlimited downloads, no ads, etc.

Thank you all for those responses, although I am still a little confused. I bought WindowBlinds over two years ago and have been downloading here ever since, right up until a month ago. It was previously my understanding that I was entitled to unlimited downloads as long as my version remained current, WIndowBlinds 7. I do not recall being sent any new ToS and It's obviously been a long time since I reviewed the last ToS from 2010. So I will have to research that and possibly make a more formal inquiry. But thanks to all of you for taking the time to respond, it's appreciated.

Edit: Just checked the ToS and there isn't anything in there about Wincustomize. Not sure now where I got that underatnsing from, it was over two years ago.

Further edit: Can't find anything about it on the Windowblinds site, Stardock supoport, or the Wincustomize ToS.

@Island Dog, I agree that the subscription fee is not excessive, what concerns me is that there is nothing about a subscription fee on the WindowBlinds site. It does say that you can obtain new content from this site and emphasizes that as a selling point.According to my Stardocks account I bought WindowBlinds 7 in March 2010. So you are saying that a download limit kicked in in March 2011 and ran out in July 2012 and I should have been aware of and expected that. In any event, reasonable or not, I wasn't aware when I bought the product for 20 $ that obtaining new content would cost an additional 10 $ per year. It's not clear to me how I should have known that, maybe it's buried in fine print somewhere but I looked around the site and the support site and couldn't find it. Therefore, since I was not aware of this hidden subscription fee when I bought the product I am not going to pay it now. I have no objections to your site at all, it just seems to me to be sensible consumer behavior. In my country, Canada, these sorts of business practices are considered inappropriate. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

dxmc ...hi...;)

I guess a suitable example would be that when you purchase a car it comes with a full tank of petrol, and no-where in its sale contract is there a statement 'you are required to purchase more petrol if you wish to continue to use this vehicle'.

Wincustomize.com is one of several 'outlets' for [Windowblinds] skin content so you are not restricted or limited in your ability to continue to 'drive', but, as with all third-party commodities 'someone' has to pay for them.  The provision of site content is NOT without cost.  The on-going supply/availability of such content necessitates an on-going subscription.

If, however, you choose not to contribute/support here you are still free to seek other online sources.

The upside to [staying with] Wincustomize.com is this is Windowblinds' home and thus our content is more diverse/extensive...;)

@jafo, Hi, thanks for your response. I'm new to this forum and it really isn't my intention to upset anyone. I'm a gamer and I usually hang out in the Steam forum, which I suspect is a little rowdier than this place. My point was just that on the WindowBlinds site it says;

"WinCustomize is a website that provides content for users to customize Microsoft Windows. There are thousands of WindowBlinds skins to choose from."

It doesn't say anything about a subscription fee. So i downloaded skins for two and a half years without problems, then suddenly got cut off. Now , two and half years after purchasing the produce I find that I'm expected to pay a fee. I wasn't expecting that and I'm not sure how I should have know that, because there is nothing on your home page about it either. If I had known that at the time I bought the product it would have affected my purchasing decision. To follow your analogy you are required to buy more petrol to keep the vehicle running. That's a normal obvious expectation. And you would expect that that would cost. But I don't think it's quite the same thing when you purchase WindowBlinds with the expectation that you can get new content, based on the sales pitch, but after a certain amount of time doing that you get charged. I respect your opinion and those of the others, I'm sure you can respect my opinion.

From another point of view then . .
Because the WB product page does not say anything about access to WinCustomize (other than a source of skins) no access should have been assumed by the user.  None is stated on the page {or it is but I've not looked recently} so no access should be expected.

Yet you got two years of access; free.  This is a good thing, right?  Better than expected?

Or, are you saying that you had an expectation of free skins?  Why did you have that expectation?  There are other sources of skins . . so it's not like you HAD to have WC access.  I know that in the past we sold CDs of WB to people with no internet and no expectations of downloading more content.  Heck, we used to sell CDs of the best content of the year.

I understand wanting more access but that's not what Stardock promised you.

I think the amount of content you've downloaded over the last two years is a pretty good deal. I hope that you subscribe for the following year and it's worth it to you.  If you don't think it is . .well . .I guess that's OK too.  We all set different values for what we want.

I can't convince you to subscribe.  you've been downloading since March of 2010.  You know.  :)

In other news . . I'll poke the web team to see if we can get clearer language on the product pages.
