Problems with the Skin Browser and Object Desktop.

I just got the subscription to Wincustomize, being a long time user of Object Desktop it was a no brainer but, I have a few questions.

I can download all the skins I want but, when it comes to applying them the program just sits there, mocking me.
When I try to install a Winstyle it says I must pick a file but, there is no file listed.

This is probably related to the Object Desktop problem I have or more specifically the Component Manager. As an example; I download a component and then attempt to uninstall a previous version. The Program states "unable to find file" I click ok and then it states "Uninstall completed" Again it mocks me!

Can anyone help me?

I am using Windows XP and I am feeling it is much to my chagrin.

Thanx in Advance for any help given.

keeping in mind that after I download the skin I right click on it and then left click on either apply or install and neither work.

I think the Component Manager problem is unrelated to the SkinBrowser one. I've been able to download skins with the browser and then apply them the normal way (ie - in the program, not from the browser). The browser has its own download path, to a downloads subdirectory in the wincustomize directory. Have you tried installing the skins from there?

Just tried that and it will not work. Does the same thing. Any other ideas. Maybe I'm not downloading them. The only button I have is Apply. When I click that I then click on the downloads button and see it (supposedly) finish downloading but, I am still unable to install it...... Hmmmm...... It mocks me I tell you!!

hmmm... I just tried a whole bunch of different skins and apps, they all installed fine right from the browser. What apps are you trying to install a skin to and is the app running when you try to apply a skin?

The only apps I have open arew the skin browser and Pocomail. I closed pocomail and tried to apply a windowblinds skin and it did the same thing. Running in the backbround I have the Mozilla quick launch, java applet, Sygate personal firewall,Trillian Popupstopper and my antivirus program. I had windowfx running but it locked up windows when trying to install the skins through skin browser.

What I meant was, if you're trying to load a Windowblinds skin, is Windowblinds already running. From your answer I'd guess no. Try loading WB so you have a skin applied before using the Skin Browser. Also try closing the Trillian popup manager before opening the Skin Browser.

Tried that. Didn't work either. Trillian isn't loaded and WB was already running. No luck. When I attempt to apply the skin it locks up my computer. Alas I believe it is formatting time.....

Can anyone help me with this strange skin browser not applying the skins it downloads and when it does try to apply the skin (on those rare occasions. one time out of ten) it locks up the program at least, if not the whole computer. Also, I am unable to uninstall an component to install a newer version (from Component Manager), kinda. When attempting to uninstall the old component it comes up with a message which states "Unable to uninstall." When I click ok it states "Uninstalled successfully". This happens EVERYTIME. I am REALLY trying to avoid formatting my Hard Drive but, it looks like that is what is going to happen though.... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!

Is that good enough begging?

It sounds like Component Manager has the incorrect Dwonloads and Installation folders. Check in the Advanced bit in CM to see if they are still set correctly.

Thanx everyone for your help. I ended up reformating and it now install the skin but does not apply it. It still locks up the program.
