Do you recommend Object Desktop?

A true bargain is what it is.

It would be worth it even if it was half as good and Twice the price.

It's worth the money even if you only use half of it.

I've used it all on XP, Vista and Win7 with rigs of varying performance and specs. I can say that I've never had slowdown issues with ODNT running on any OS or equipment.

Stardock makes the software to use as little resources as possible. You'll be fine.

The only "problem"you may encounter will be deciding which skins to use.

I think Object Desktop is wonderful. Is it worth it? You bet!!!

Your question about slowing? Well, you didn't supply info about your system, but on a modern one... no it shouldn't.

Perhaps you'll put on some info so we'll be able to better judge?

Can the suite cause some slowness on my machine, with my above configuration, or can it cause, for example, some other problems?

All the modifications done by Object Desktop can be easily undone, when we uninstall the software, for example?

To your first question. It's hard to say 100% since everyone's pc is different with different apps. But generally I'd say no. I've been using the software for many years now and have never noticed even a slight slowdown in my system.

To your second question. Yes

Yes, although some with programs like IconPackager and LogonStudio for example, you should set Windows back to the default OS settings before you uninstall them.

I think I'll definitely purchase the suite. By what I understood, it is yearly charged. Is this correct?

And, what happens if and when we decide to not renew the subscription?

Yes, implement the default Windows Aero theme and icons before uninstalling. Then use CCleaner (free on the web) to uninstall and to clean up your registry as well.

The renewal is not necessarily yearly. It generally comes if large changes are made to any one of the programs or graduation to say, Windowblinds 8 from Windowblinds 7.4 .

You should download the installers as they come out and keep them on optical or other external media (where you keep your backups). That way, the last version your subscription entitle you to will be available to you... Stardock Support won't keep old installers hanging around so maybe having a backup and a redundant backup is a good idea.

ObjectDesktop subscriptions are yearly.  It is standalone applications that care about major version changes where if you buy WB7 and then WB8 comes out later you would typically have to renew.  If you have an ObjectDesktop subscription then you get all the updates released during your subscription period.

If you do not plan to renew then yes backing up the installers before your sub ends is a good idea and you should be able to continue to install them just fine after your sub has ended, though you will not get any updates.

So, I heard something about the community developing themes, etc, for Object Desktop. Is it something supported by Stardock?

Do you know where is the place to get news about, or are all of those things implemented automatically inside Object Desktop? If so, how works this, please?

Absolutely there ain't no stoppin', ODNT is very addictive. Hundreds of skins from Windowblinds to Iconpackages to Dreams and Rainlendars and Sysmetrix and Xion and Wallpapers and.....whew!

You started to make me feel afraid of Object Desktop...heheeh   I have only an internal 1 TB Hard Drive and an external USB 1 Tera HD...hehehe

Let me clarify a bit.

Rainlander,Sysmetrix, and xion are not a part of the ObjectDesktop suite of desktop customization programs. These are skinnable programs we host galleries for that can be used in conjunction with the various programs in the ObjectDesktop suite, but they are not included with the subscription..They are however ,free to download from their perspective sites.

Depending on what you want to do. If you only want to skin the windows or maybe skin the cursors, then I would suggest just buying the standalone programs.

best thing to do is see what items you want to use or try then add up the total.. If the total is at or higher than the Full ObjectDesktop suite, then Id go for the whole shebang.

There's nothing wrong with being a prudent shopper.

I just want to point out that CursorFX is not a part of the the ODNT package. It is a stand-alone program. There is a free version or a paid version with extra features.

Got me there whiz. It is a Stardock product but not part of the suite. 

I tend to lump them all together seeing's how they sometimes become part of a suite. 

Marcos_zy....if you want have a look at Heavy Equipment. Its one of the largest most complete suites at WC. Many very talented artists contributed to it.

A  .suite in this case is a collection of skins, usually based on a windowblind. Theme Manager, a part of ObjectDesktop, is used to apply them. You must also have the required software installed to apply them, such as WB's, IconPackager, .etc.

The answer to your last question is yes, it is. Stardock foots the bills.

Heavy Equipment was a Community project several years ago which was a group effort to skin [using matching base graphics] pretty well every 'skinnable' grogram/application that was available at the time.  From memory more than 20 skinners provided works for more than 50 separate programs.

Many of the more popular/famous Windowblinds skins have been adapted to other programs...in other words contributors have skinned other apps using [with consent] the original graphics and/or style of the original source.

For example... I still use daily my 'Antares' Sysmetrix skin which was created from treetog's 'Antares' Windowblind.

Of course, by the time you mix and match the sky's the limit for a desktop's 'originality' ....;)
