I thought there use to be five, but I couldn't think of what they were...

I like this, less to focus on, Id wish they would work abit on it though, as it might be able to make a more interesting, 1 big research tree, which included all the stuff and 3-9 paths of interest.

Yes there where five , now there are only three that I can see. I really like the five trees. Now the reamainig tres are very short. I am dissappointed.

They should either make one big tree, or make three interdependently viable trees.  But, I shouldn't bitch, as I haven't played a recent beta to really know what is actually in the game.

Where the hell are my damn props for knowing the old trees?

And Xia, play the game or watch my let's play videos. No room for wallflowers. Especially when your reviews are so interesting.

Hmmmm Difficulty levels five indepth trees made for a rich and diverse game. Three little trees are probably for low I.Q mass appeal, very sad to see a great game dumbed down.

Not the case. The previous 5 tree system was tossed because there just wasn't enough to fill all 5 trees and still have good opportunity cost. I also remember the WoM tech order. 3 Warfare, 1 Civics, 2 more Warfare, end game. The current trees have a ton of interesting choices, derived from brutal opportunity cost. There is no best tech order. It all depends on your faction, starting city, city specialization, nearby resources, nearby monsters and nearby factions. The 3 trees are well integrated into the game. 5 tress could be possible, but really those other trees are ingame now, just set at different tiers. 5 tech trees was a symptom of the game's unfocused nature.

I agree completely, and it was my stance with the first game too. 5 was apparently perfect and there was no reason to change it until the game bombed completely. Now 3 is the perfect number, perhaps the next one will have just one? At least spell research is removed, for better or worse. So you could say there are half as many trees in FE I suppose. Having multiple research trees that have no dependencies is such a gimmick, but at least things are getting better with each beta :)

Just thinking of the Diplomacy tree from the first game makes me laugh a bit. Also at least we aren't researching resources that causes them to spawn in enemy lands anymore! I can't wait till a good Elemental comes out, even unfinished FE is better than the hyped up junk 4x games that keep coming out lately :(
