Difference between energy and physical damage?

Does one effect shields or hull more than the other? or is it purely just for particle effects? Also, it would be much appreciated if someone could post a link to Harpo's new rebellion data for this update :P

It's just there for buff files to take advantage of. There isn't an actual difference between the two otherwise.
