Grapics Effects dissapearing during game.

I have had this problem on all my stationariy computers (not on my weaker laptop for some reason)

What happens is during the course of the game, the fleets will grow! (i use normal fleet size) When i get to logistics lvl 2 in tech and have a handfull of ships the effects start to dissapear. I can now only see a few lasers, a few nukes on planets and very few missiles in the air. The death animation for ships are poorer to. This is the case with Sins + all the expansions.

As effects are important for my imersion this reduction in detail leaves me unable to enjoy the game, it looks stupid to have a fleet face off against just some static defences (maby 40ships on screen as there is no hostile fleet in the system) and see almost no firering.. This game cant be this badly optimised for pc?

My computer is strong enough to play bf3 on max, and i have 0 slowdown while playing sins, but still the game seems to cut out effects...

My rig:

Cpu: i7 3.16gig (quadcore)

Ram: 12gig

GPU: Nvidia gtx 480

Win 7 64bit home edition.

Why can my 4year old laptop play this game better then my gaming pc??

And are there any solutions for this?

(Ps: turning down antialiasing and so forth helps nothing)

(PsPs: Just for fun i put all effects down to lowest possible. And still no improvment. A missile ships that normaly shoots like 6missiles now only fire two missiles. This does not make any sense)

Not to ask a stupid question, but you're not running any mods are you?

This has been a problem since original sins...one of my friends would never see wave cannons fire until some point in diplomacy (can't remember the update), though now I think the problem has returned for him...I still don't often see effects for some of the newer abilities like scatter shot, just hear the sound and notice my ships are taking a lot of damage...I also believe there was a time for me that disruption matrix didn't have any effect with it...

These "absences" do not appear to be tied to lag or fleet size, I've had these issues occur in both SP and MP relatively early in the game....

For what it's worth, Volt, my experiences were with vanilla sins...

Particle effects are weird...

if you can't see the origin point of the effect on your screen, the particles have a chance of not spawning...

Similarly, when you zoom in on a fight, the first few seconds of effects are not displayed...

I believe the correct term for these phenomenon you describe is "Optimization"...

no

not that

anything but that

I'm assuming you've maxed out your settings and have the latest Nvidia drivers?

I have maxed out settings, but my drivers are ATI (is a laptop, though)...

Can't speak for my friend (who's had trouble seeing all sorts of effects from original sins) but I know it isn't a laptop, and I seriously doubt he has Nvidia...

For ATI, what video card are you using and do you have the latest drivers?  ATI validated Rebellion ahead of release and reported no issues.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670...I also have an Intel Chipset (Dual P8600 @2.40GHz)..

The driver version I have is 8.631.0.0 which was released 6/25/2009...old I know but I actually have serious issues with more recent versions, they cause programs to randomly close with error messages...it got so bad I had to reinstall my OS twice (gave the ATI autodetect thing they have a try once, used a different source the 2nd time, not willing to go through that again)...

Not exactly your problem I know, but it is what it is...for what it's worth, I just played Rebellion last night and never saw the Ragnarov's scattershot ability (definitely heard the sound and saw the damage register though)...since the beginning of the beta I've only seen this ability's effect display once despite encountering multiple times....

So what i take away from the answers sofar is that there is nothing to be done? :p

I always update my drivers (My geforce + everything else is up to date)

I have tried tuning everything to minimum settings without any improvments, and i have also tried running it on max without any poorer or better performance. (Never tried to max out antialiasing, diddent think it could be relevant. but i might give it a go just for the heck of it)

I have not modded the game at all.. The question here being: shoud i? Are there any mods that might solve this problem for me? :p

Have there been no responses to this issue from the devs if it as you guys say have been a problem for years?

Well I have the problem, but I also can't update my drivers...as far as I'm concerned, if I don't have the most recent drivers then it's not really SD's concern anymore...

Can't speak for the Nvidia people....

Cant find anything related to this when using google either... Are these boards monitored by the devs?

Yes but there's no guarantee any given post or thread is reviewed by them....if you really want a response, send a PM to one of them.....
