The description for Stripping The Core, is that it turns the eaten planet into a Dead Astroid. So, when I used abandoned the planet to test it out, it became an astroid belt with the resources still there. So I thought cool, I can still get resources, but they are not even captureable. Is it supposed to be an empty gravity well, astroid belt, or a dead astroid?
I think it randomly varies between a dead asteroid or an asteroid belt.
Planets and moons become dead asteroids and then dead asteroids become asteroid belts.
The resource asteroids are not usable in either case.
Can't you capture them with the scout/colony vessels? Never tried that, I just went along and ate planets 
Nope, you can strip your own just fine, although you shouldn't want to unless you desperatly need the resources right away OR you're about to lose it anyway so you go russian style and blow it up so the enemy can't use it.
I might just be a fail. 
Lol, depends if you're going all mobile... If you do, then you just fly around and conquer planets, then strip them, then leave them, for the next planet...
the one advantage about going pure mobile, is you use your titan to spawn in Phase Stabilizers. That will let you create your fleet/cap ships.
I know this is totally obvious to everyone else, but how do you abandon a planet?
